He came to America with his parents in about 1638 and after the death of his father in 1650/1, he was taken to Springfield, Mass., by his mother. Mr. and Mrs. Bliss removed in 1672 to Northampton, Mass. They were there during John's sister's famous trial for witchcraft and returned to Springfield near the close of 1685. They afterwards removed to Longmeadow, where Mr. Bliss died. Mr. Bliss built a house at Northampton, Massachusetts in 1658 for his sister Mary (Bliss) Parsons.
