Jonathan Marsh was to New Hartford largely what his brother Capt. John Marsh, 20 years older, was to Litchfield, an explorer one of the first three selectman, and the second on the list of earliest settlers. He explored in 1733 and removed with his family in 1736. Was a resident of New Hartford from his boyhood in 1736. He lived about a quarter of a mile from Lake Wonksunkmunk where he built a house. His grand-daughter Mrs. Anna Merrill, dau. of his son Roswell, was born in this house and after living mainly there 93 years died in it Oct. 30, 1882. The old cider mill of her grandfather still stands where unfortunately her only brother was drowned in a tub of apple juice, when very young. Near this lake was the house of John Marsh, older brother of Job, and also of Job's sons Amos and Job, Jr., as well as Roswell's, the old place. John's house was torn down in 1849. 6 iv. After Jonathan Marsh's death in 1783, Elizabeth (Loomis) Marsh went to Hartford and lived, until her death in 1795, 12 years with this daughter Hannah. When Thomas Wadsworth died his widow Hannah removed to Whitesborough, N.Y. and lived with her sister Lois (Marsh) White until her, Mrs. Judge White's death in 1829, and then lived with her nephew, Dea. James Marsh of Bridgewater, N.Y. and died there.
