    3. Sometimes in the study of both history and genealogy, we tend to forget that our ancestors and founders of this nation were very human people with the same idiosyncrasies that all of us have. Today, I was reading The History of the Town of Litchfield, Connecticut 1720-1920 by Alain C. White 1920. When I read page 90, I laughed out loud. Tapping Reeve was the founder of the first law school in the United States. Although the exact date is not known, the law school existed from 1784-1833. Tapping Reeve was quite a man, but he did have one of those idiosyncrasies that many of us have--he was absentminded. ". . .one day he was see walking up North Street, with a bridle in his hand, but without a horse, which had quietly slipped out and walked off. The Judge calmly fastened the bridle to a post, and walked into the house, oblivious of any horse." Peggy J. Knox
