He probably moved to New York State about the middle of 1795, as his daughter Louise was baptized in Eastbury, Oct. 12, 1795, he there being in Richfield, N.Y. Mrs. Penelope Hollister was one of the most remarkable women of her time. It is said to have been proverbial among the people that she was better qualified to represent the town of Glastonbury than any two men in the town. She entertained many officers of the Revolution, even Gen. Washington. She was noted for large benevolence; her home she opened as an asylum for wounded soldiers. She was greatly beloved and highly educated. It is related of her that she could give the definition of every word in the dictionary. He settled in Gill, Mass., where for a number of years he practiced successfully, and was one of the most eminent physicians of Franklin County. She was a woman of great moral worth and integrity and the centre of the circle in which she moved. Possessing fine judgment and large benevolence, she was loved and respected by all classes of society. Moving into the place when it was comparatively new, which for more than fifty years became her home, she identified herself with it best interests.
