"The Source" on page 88 says that Marriage Intentions were filed with the town or county clerk. They were not read aloud, but posted, or published, in public places for a prescribed period, to give others the opportunity to voice objection. Several examples are given, i. e., "Samuel Woodbery of Beuerly and hannah Dodge of Salem their Intention of marriage publifhed Auguft 22d 1713".
