    3. Does anyone know what "town" (the larger thing -- the subdivision-of-a-county-containing-several-villages -- not the village) Goshen, Orange County, VT is in? My local bookstore is plumb outta DeLorme VT atlases. (I just knew procrastinating on buying one would come back to bite me one day.) Mapquest on the net shows Goshen, the village, as being halfway between East Corinth, in the east, and South Newbury, in the west. It is just a little southwest of West Newbury. It turns out that John Powell (b. 1753), son of Rowland Powell 4th and Mary Richardson, was an "original grantee" of land in Goshen some time in the late 1700s. His dad Rowland Powell 4th bought him out for reasons I can't even imagine, 'cause Rowland 4th lived in Hartford, Windsor Co., VT, maybe as another one of those wacky Powell land deals. This stuff shows up in a "quitclaim" deed at Hartford, VT in 1801 after Rowland 4th died, and his heirs were divvying up the estate. Marvelously, Rowland 4th's daughters all show up on this deed, along with their hubbies, so now I have hubbies -- and surnames -- for all the daughters! Got my aunts in a row now. No ducks, no, but aunts yes. Neat. Also got four new Powell heirs to Rowland 4th that had not previously existed, but you know how it is after the rich guy dies and heirs come out of the woodwork. Incidentally, there is no such thing as Goshen on the 1790 federal census of Vermont. 'Spose that thickens the plot a bit. 3. Lester, Goshen is a little hamlet in the town of Bradford, Orange County, VT. Right where you described it from mapquest. That is the only Goshen I know of in Orange County. As far as I know it was never known as a "town". I would try looking for records in Bradford, possibly Newbury as Goshen Road area is close to the Newbury town line. Hope this helps. Kathy Porter Corinth, VT...grew up in Bradford. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lester M Powers" <lesterps@juno.com> To: <CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 08, 2000 11:00 PM Subject: [CRV] Goshen, OrangeCo., VT (POWELL) > Does anyone know what "town" (the larger thing -- the > subdivision-of-a-county-containing-several-villages -- > not the village) Goshen, Orange County, VT is in? > My local bookstore is plumb outta DeLorme VT atlases. > (I just knew procrastinating on buying one would come > back to bite me one day.)
