With the very large SMITH family and the proximinity in neighborhood, perhaps a relative of Moses COOK, even a sister, m. my gggg-grandfather Jedediah SMITH (generation 5 below). 1. Rev. Henry SMITH came to America as a Puritan pastor about 1638, and was an original settler of Wethersfield, CT. He left 10 children. 2. Samuel SMITH died in Hadley, MA, in 1703, leaving eight children. See Genealogies of Hadley Families. 3. Ebenezer SMITH I died in Suffield, CT in 1728; he had nine children. He is known to have resided in Hadley. 4. Ebenezer SMITH II was born in Suffield in 1699; date and place of death is unknown. He had 10 children. He and others of this line are listed in Genealogies of Hadley Families: Embracing the Early Settlers of the Towns of Hatfield, South Hadley, Amherst and Granby. 5. Jedediah SMITH, b. 31 Jan 1726/27, in Suffield, graduated from Yale in 750, m. Sarah COOK (family unknown), 1751 in Granville, MA, where he was pastor of the 2nd Congregational Church. We also have a record of collateral kin in Granby: James SMITH, grandson of Samuel, son of Preserved SMITH and Mary SMITH (descended from Lt. Samuel SMITH), was the Baptist minister there. Preserved and Mary's son Chileab SMITH (1708-1800), lived in both S. Hadley and Ashfield. There are also several marriages between descendants of Henry SMITH and Lt. Samuel SMITH (ca 1602-1680), who held church and state offices in Hadley. If anyone has any idea on who Sarah COOK might be, I would appreciate the help. Thank you. E.W.
