John, was at Boston before 1657 ================================ Interesting to note there was a William Downes of Boston.....In the "Great Migrations, Vol.2L C-F" by Robert Charles Anderson, states " Oct 6 1635, William Downes and 5 others were ordered whipped for "running from their masters, and for stealing a boat and divers other things with them, as also shall be given the satisfaction to the country for their charges in sending to fetch them home, and likewise, shall serve their said masters twice so long a the end of their time, as they have been absent from their masters' service, by reason of their running away". MBCR:1:162 COMMENT. this is the ONLY New England record of William Downes, from which we deduce that he died or returned to England not long after this escapade.
