    1. [CRV] Bates/Spelman Years 1790-1810
    2. Sheila Bates
    3. Hello to the List, I am trying to find any clue to help find Church records showing a Baptism for Henry N. Bates in 1803. Research leads us to Durham, Ct. where we believe his Grandparents Samuel and Sarah Spelman raised their family. We also believe Henry's father Samuel moved from Durham to West Hartland Ct. and Henry N. was born of a second marriage to Elizabeth. Henry N. Bates states on the 1840 census of Winnebago County, Illinois that he was born in Mass, and the feeling is this was in Granville, Mass. just across the state border from West Hartland, Ct. I would appreciate any ideas on how to proceed from here. We do not know what the "N" stands for but are guessing Nathaniel. When signing documents he only ever used the initial "N". He used Spelman as a first name for one of his sons. Thankyou for taking the time to read this, Best wishes Sheila Gaultry Bates Illinois

    1. [CRV] Hampden County Update & Lookup Note
    2. Laurel O'Donnell
    3. Hi Everyone, Three more additions to the Hampden County site to let you know about. Tech Tiger, the 1930 school yearbook for the Springfield Technical High School. About 215 featured graduating seniors (head shots, street addresses and descriptions) plus over a thousand additional names and street addresses for the lower classmen in the school. Also sports and interesting school activities, such as the Banjo, Riding and Model Airplane Clubs. In general, D.O.B. is estimated to be around 1913. Harper's Weekly, a popular illustrated newspaper, published in 1861 "Manufacturing Muskets at the U.S. Armory, Springfield, Massachusetts." Essentially this is a graphic depiction of various jobs/processes associated with the production of muskets, but interesting, especially is you have Civil War era ancestors or a special interest in that time. If your ancestors worked in the paper manufacturing industry, you might want to take a look at "How Paper is Made" -- includes a historical sketch and a detailed description of the process of paper making at the mills of the Whiting Paper Company, Holyoke, Massachusetts, U.S.A., 1923. Interesting way to learn about some of the jobs and the machinery without too much technical detail. Excellent for classroom use also. Finally, there has been some discussion about lookup resources and I wanted to remind everyone that there is a lookup page on the Hampden County site. It may be accessed by clicking on the "Making Connections" button on the main page. This has had only a couple minor updates over a rather long period of time, so if your mail bounces, please alert me. More importantly, if you have a lookup resource and are willing to be added to the list, contact me and I will list your ASAP. I will be traveling a little bit during the next couple weeks, but will try to get to my email as best I can. Cheers, Laurel

    3. I just received a package from a cousin, telling me that there is a cementary in Norwich called Waterman that has over 75 Bartlett's buried in it and some of the other individuals that are buried in there are related to the Bartlett's in some way shape or form.. My Question, does anyone have an address or know something about or can do some lookups in the Waterman Cementery? I look forward to hearing from someone?? Sincerely, Sherrie _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. 2. Hi Cynthia I would be interested in the info on Benjamin Bullard and Richard Cutting. My lines are Ball - and Bullard is a derivative of that name - could move the brick wall I've leaned against for a while. Thanks in advance. Penney
