For John and William there are notes to "see Litchfield". If anyone is interested in this information, let me know. I'm not a Peck researcher. I have easy access to the book in my local library and checked when I returned a book tonight. Sorry, I can't take lookup requests for other families. I'm very busy job hunting right now. I would suggest that anyone researching the Peck family also look at "A genealogical dictionary of the first settlers of New England, showing three generations of those who came before May, 1692, on the basis of the Farmer's Register"; Vol. 3. pages 380-383. This book can be found on-line at < http://genweb.net/~books/savage/savage.htm > You will find some differences in birth dates from those given by Barbour for some of the individuals. 3. Alleen-Marie Coke My records show Paul Peck Jr.son of Paul Peck marrying Elizabeth Baisey/Baysey and having 8 children including the Hannah you mentioned and the Samuel that I'm following. As you'll see from the information I posted (IIa posting) the Bible doesn't mention this Paul Peck Jr. I believe the Bible is wrong and your info. is correct but who knows. Mrs. Duval was one of the daughters of Horace Clark, of Middletown, Ct. whose sister Jerusha was wife of Henry Peck of Berlin and New Haven, Ct.. Mrs. Duval was sister to Horace P. Clark, for many years first clerk on the old steamboat line between New York and New Haven. Her brother Charles died at Boston. Her brothers Horace P. and Fred. survive her as do ?? her sisters Harriet, married to ?? Fagan of Middletown and Julia and Emily. Caroline had very dark hair and dark eyes and was a handsome woman. His sister Emily died in Philadelphia, sister Charlotte Elizabeth and brother Horace Kempshall Peck died at New Haven. The subjoined newspaper slip is from the New Haven Palladium of May 1. 1893 Next is Charles E. Peck’s obituary Willie Parr Ballard, son of George Lucius and Carrie E. Ballard, died at Bridgeport, Conn, Oct 23, 1872. aged 6 years and 6 months. Internment at Bridgeport. POEM The following was copied by Horace C Peck, the day of the funeral of his son, Charles E. Peck. Going Home Out of the chill and the shadow Into the thrill and the shrine; Out of the dearth and the famine Into the fullness divine. Up from the strife and the battle Oft with the shameful deafeat Up to the palm and the laurel O but the rest will be sweet. Leaving the cloud and the tempest, Reaching the balm and the cheer Finding the end of our sorrow Finding the end of our fear. Seeing the face of the Master Yearned for in”distance and dream” O for that rapture of gladness O for that vision supreme. Meeting the dear ones departed, Knowing them, clasping their hands All the beloved and true hearted There in the fairest of lands. Sin evermore left behind us, Pain nevermore to distress; Changing the moan for the music, Living the Savior to bless. Why should we care for the dying That is but springing to life, Why should we shrink from the struggle Pale at the swift closing strife. Since it is only beyond us, Scarcely a step, and a breath, All that dear home of the living Guarded by what we call death. There shall we learn the sweet meanings Hidden to day from our eyes. There shall we waken like children Joyous at gift and susprise. Come then, dear Lord, in the gloaming Or where the dawning is day! Take us to dwelll in thy presence Only Thyself lead us the way. Out of the chill and the shadow Into the thrill and the shrine! Out of the dearth and the famine Into the fullness divine. Out of the sigh and the silence Into the deep swelling song! Out of the exile and bondage Into the home gathered throng. April 27 1893 H.C.P. Thomas W. Blasdale, brother of Mrs. Francis H. Richards died in Chicopee, Mass., February 18, 1898. He was aged 47 years in the November preceding. He was Chief Engineer of the Chicopee Fire Department. THE FAMILY OF CLARK The family of Clark is of high antiquity in Scotland having been seated at Comrie Castle for the last seven centuries. Allanus Clark of Comrie was a free Baron of Peutshire (sp?) as stated in the Kings commission to him to hold a grand inquest in 1312. On King James the sixth of Scotland ascending the British throne Alexr (partially torn, I think that’s correct) Clark a cadeh (sp?) of the house of Comrie accompanied him into England but being disconteneted with James support of Episcopacy, he and his family went into Holland. At an advanced age he sailed for America accompanied by his two sons. Henry the Elder was for many years a magistrate of Connecticut and Jeremiah was president of Rhode Island in 1648. John Clark the founder of the Colony of Rhode Island was also one of the Sons of Alexr Clark. Arms – On (gold) a Jesse checky (?)Argent (?) (white) and azure (blue) in chief (the upper part) two cresents and in base (the lower part of the shield) a boars head erased (torn off) all sable (black). The Jesse is a belt of honor given for courage shown in the field of battle. The cresents indicate that the honor was obtained in battle with the Turks – the boars head indicate courage and determination. The crest of the Clark family is a demi (half) huntsman draped in green blowing a hunting horn. The motto is Free ??? a blast. The genealogy of Jerusha Clark, wife of Henry Peck of New Haven, was traced by Seth Clark of Hartford. POEM In the May No (?) of the Male Lib 1898 was the poetry written by Winston T. Townsend before he was killed accidentally. The lines are on the other side of this paper. They were copied by Jemia (?) P. Peck. Copied for Uncle Henry The birth of the dawn-flower. Lo! Blossoms in the Eastern sky The faint blue flower of the dawn And, ringing out, the petrel’s cry Proclaims to wave the birth of morn. The flower, with the blood of Earth Is nourished, and dyes red the sky. While, bursting from the blue of birth Great crimson petals form on high. Then deeps to gold the blood-red flame, The blossom of the Dawn is doomed! A million leaves of light proclaim The flower of the Day has bloomed. W. T. T. FAMILY RECORD OF THE FAMILY OF HENRY PECK Abijah Peck born December 1709 Abigail his wife born July 1720 They were married June 10, 1742 >From them descended Abijah Born July 11 1747 Joseph Born July 6 1749 Anna Born Jany 21 1752 Jesse Born March 3d 1754 Mary born March 29 1756 Abigail Died July 21 1775 Mary Died July 6 1790 Anna Died July 24 1790 Abijah Peck Died March 13 1797 Joseph Died at Berlin Dec 1822 Jesse Died at Rochester NY April 29 1823 BIRTHS Jesse Peck Born March 3 1754 Philomela Cooke born July 14 1761 They were Married Nov 15 1785 >From them descended Everard Born Nov 6 1792 Henry Born Jany 3 1795 Jesse Born Jany 19 1798 Emily born March 31 1802 Jesse Died at rochester April 1823 Philomela his wife Died March 16th 1815 at Middletown My Mother Dear By Samuel Lover There was a place in childhood that I remember well, And there a voice of sweetest tone, bright fairy tales did tell, And gentle words and fond embrace were given with joy to me, When I was in that happy place upon my mother’s knee. When fairy tales were ended “Good night” she softly said And kissed and laid me down to sleep within my tiny bed, And holy words she taught me there, methinks I yet can see Her angel eyes, as close I knelt beside my mother’s knee. In sickness of my childhood, the perils of my prime, The sorrows of my riper (?) years, the cares of ev’ry time, When doubt or danger weighed me down, then pleading all for me, It was a fervent prayer to Heav’n that bent my mother’s knee. My mother dear, my mother dear, my gentle, gentle mother. Copied by Horace C. Peck while his aged mother, a few days only short of ninety years, lay upon her death bed. March the 10th 1887. Here are three newspaper clippings about the death of Miss Jessie Peck (Dec 2. 1888), marriage of George Redfield Clarke and Fannie W. Peck (Sept 11)and death of Jerusha C. Peck.(March 11, 1887).

    3. I recently was given this old family Bible anad have transcribed the handwritten notes found all through it as best I can. If anyone wants to discuss it with me in more detail I'd be glad to. This Bible (1797) was owned by the following persons: Abijah Peck Jesse Peck Mayor Henry Peck Henry Peck Fanny Ward Peck Clarke Jessie R. Clarke Baxter – sister of Frederick Clarke Elsie Baxter Carol A. Hammond White - granddaughter of Frederick Clarke (written on HJ Heinz Co. business card of:) G. R. Clark 30-34 Eastern Ave. Boston, MA This is the Bronson bible, so named by me because Jesse Peck made a note in pencil showing the relationship between the Pecks and Bronsons. The book was first owned by Abijah Peck and came to Jesse, the father of Everard, Henry and Jesse and Emily. And so it came to Mayor Henry Peck’s son Henry and given by him to his daughter Fannie, wife of Redfield Clarke. This book once belonged to Jesse Peck who died in Rochester in 1823. it was owned by Henry Peck of New Haven, his son, and after his death to me Henry Peck (jr) by his widow, formerly Jerusha Clarke, my mother. 3. I'll have some of the transcriptions ready to post tonight but I also wanted to let you know that along with the Bibles I received the following books: The Poets of Connecticut with Biographical Sketches - 1849 (I could do look ups in that) The New Haven State House with some account of the Green - 1889 Reminiscences and Early History of Old Peru (New York - 1913) History of New Haven (1837 by Edward R. Lambert) (could do look ups on the Lambert family) Those last three books have loads of people mentioned but there is no index so can't do look ups other than what I offered to do. Carol White

    3. Hi AM: Looks like the offer of Peck information may prove helpful to you. It's good to see something of value come on line. I took all the background information that was given about Vermont by the list owner (I don't know exactly what a list owner is) and put it in my background files. I suppose the "owner" is the volunteer who took on the responsibility of managing the list and as such is someone like you or even me. All of the garden that was covered, survived the freeze last night. The tent over the tomatoes with electric bulbs inside probably helped. All of the border plantings of nasturtiums have had it as well as the Dahlias which are very tender. The green bean pole has had it too but they had stopped bearing anyway. I will be going to Kinkos printing early in the morning soon when they open. It is good to go early before all the people from the offices show up doing copy work. They have 6 of the big multi purpose copy machine for that purpose at 7 cents per page. This time it is background information form Ira Allen's history of Vermont. Interestingly, in every land deal g grandfather Jesse was involved in... Ira was also there as a fellow "proprietor." Anyway all of a sudden Jesse and his son Harmon and some of the others kids took off for NYS in 1795 maybe by way of CT a few years after Jesse was found by me as an early settler of Mt Holly, VT in 1792. I also found recently that Jesse apparently put his oldest son's name (Harmon) in as a grantee on one of the New Hampshire Grants when the kid was only 9 years old. ( Creative spelling here again for Harmon; this time Hermon other times Harmon, Herman, Hermen even Harmanius). No other Sawyers of a similar given name are found in this time period to confuse the issue. Anyway I am finding new stuff never noted before. I went in to a VT RAOGK volunteer who did try to help me last year with a new request message. Perhaps I will finally get something through the program. The count for look-ups from the Lycoming Co PA list hit 28 this morning but no more hits were uncovered. 3. Thank you Carol White for your kind offer to share your PECK Family Bible information! Maybe my long search for my 2 missing PECKs of the time and place will soon be over. I DO have a Paul PECK, Jr. in my database. All I know about him is that he married an Elizabeth BAISIE, and fathered a Hannah PECK, who married a Joseph Hopkins and maybe died in Hartford in about 1715. My other 2 PECKs are: Nathaniel, b abt. 1687 and died abt. 1752 who married Sarah Hopkins about 1711, who were parents of Sarah PECK, who married my 5 great-grandfather, Abel MUNSON, in 1728 in Wallingford. Abel and Sarah PECK MUNSON's grandson, Almon(d) MUNSON, b in Brantford in 1761, married another PECK, Esther PECK, who is mentioned in the MUNSON RECORD, but about whom I've been unable to find any further information. Anything further on these people will be most gratefully welcome. Alleen-Marie Coke

    3. Try these sources. They may not all be as useful as you might like, but they are good places to start: New Haven Colony Historical Society, 114 Whitney Ave., New Haven, CT 06510, 203.562.4183. Not on line. Generally useful books Roland Osterweis, Three Centuries of New Haven, 1938, Yale University, out of print. New Haven: An Illustrated History, ed. Floyd Shumway & Richard Hegel, 1988, avail. through Historical Society. The Origins of the Street Names of New Haven, Townshend, avail. through Historical Society. The book has useful leads regarding families in New Haven. Society also publishes original articles twice yearly in the Journal.
