Hi everyone: Just returned from Virginia and while I was looking around a museum book store, I found a map .....1780 of New England..........all BEFORE the first US census. It shows: 1.Providence of New Hampshire....which includes many of today's VT towns 2.Colony of Conecticut[sic]: 3.Eastern Part of Massachusetts: [ now Maine] 4.Vermont: sparsely settled [all towns on the Conn River...none inland] 5.Providence Plantation.: [now Rhode Is] some border towns in Mass now in RI I think it's worth copying this map if there is enough interest.......I dont know how much it will cost. Anyone with ancestors prior to 1800 should have this map [no it's not a sales gimmick but a fact] The map is 23"Lx20"w.........in pastel colors.......I will take it to a local store to find out the actual cost and postage and get back to the lists. Arline Waterford is in Caledonia county - I was mistaken - it is right on the border of Essex county - sorry. Penney
Ancestry's Redbook has Waterford with an address for the town clerk, Lower Waterford 05676 formed1780, with another name of Littleton, in Caledonia County and parent county as Orange Co. Probate court in Calrdonia. South Waterford is SE of St Johnsbury just south of Interstate 93 and near the Connecticut River on my Vermont map issued by the state of Vermont -----Original Message----- From: Arline Larson <arline7@bellsouth.net> To: CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com <CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, October 15, 2000 12:45 PM Subject: [CRV] Waterford, Vermont > >Cynthia: > >I have had three answers about the location of Waterford, Vermont. >Each one places Waterford in a different county. >Was there more than one Waterford, or did the county lines move? > >Arline > > >==== CT-RIVER-VALLEY Mailing List ==== >http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl >Conn.River Valley Genealogical research library: http://www.quadrangle.org > >http://www.nehgs.org [New Eng.His Gen Society] >Listowner: NewEnglander1621@msn.com > >============================== >Create a FREE family website at MyFamily.com! >http://www.myfamily.com/banner.asp?ID=RWLIST2 > >
For Phil: This summer, while at the Newberry Library in Chicago, I used this book. They will make copies for you: "John Hopkins of Cambridge, MA, 1634, and Some of His Descendants, by Timothy Hopkins 1932, Stanford University Press, at Newberry Library, Chicago, Call # E7 H77815 #453 " Here's the line I am researching: Selden9, Oney8, Truman7, John6, Elias5, Ebenezer4, Ebenezer3, Stephen2. Maria's suggestion that you order the set of fiche from the FHC is a great one. In fact, I'm going to do just that, so I can go back to it whenever the need arises. Alleen-Marie Coke
