    3. Hi Warren, How much space are we talking about in web space? I might be able to host them for free at AccessGenealogy for you. Dennis Genealogy research tools made to be used: SurnameWeb - http://www.surnameweb.org/ AccessGenealogy - http://www.accessgenealogy.com PartridgeNest - http://www.PartridgeNest.com/ -----Original Message----- From: Warren Wetmore [mailto:WebMerlin@MegsINet.net] Sent: Sunday, November 19, 2000 7:34 PM To: CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CRV] Savage book is online in html format! I also should point out that my efforts were limited to formatting the four Savage volumes in WordPerfect 6.1 (in May 1999 I e-mailed them, as self-extracting zip files, to more than a hundred requestors). When the Web pages were in the making, I did an HTML Transit batch conversion WP->HTML of vols. 3 and 4 and sent them to Debbie. Aside from a little kibitzing about fonts, that's it. The *real* heavy lifting, the entire superb design of the site and massaging the HTML are Debbie's and Holly's efforts -- with Ginger executing the beautiful graphics. Great job, guys! If SKS would forward this to VTWINDSO and NORTHEAST and whatever other lists it was posted to, I'd be very grateful. If there is sufficient demand for it, I may find Web server space somewhere for my zipped WordPerfect volumes, for people who want them on their hard drives. They convert very easily to MS Word and presumably to other word processing formats. The advantage of having them on one's own hard drive, for me at least, is that they are easy to search and annotate, and are not fazed by my ISP's frailties. 2. Marge & Carl Hommel
    3. According to a booklet issued by the Town of Ware, available at rest stops on the Mass Turnpike, the Town name is a translation of the Native word "Nenaneseck", meaning" fishing basket" or "fishing weir". The weirs were situated at the foot of the falls to capture salmon, a once abundant commodity in New England rivers. The Ware town seal is a depiction of one of the Natives spearing some of those captive fish. 3. Donna and List: Earlier response would have given you the following by opening the root directory, but here's a good roadmap on doing business in Worcester MA. Most towns, cities and counties have something like this: http://www.ci.worcester.ma.us/clerk/ Using most any search engine...I happen to use DOGPILE, a great metasearch tool...it only takes a few minutes to pin down a site providing this sort of information. If you truncate the URL back to eliminate "clerk" you can get a lot of info, including the email address, for Worcester. 3. Warren... No I do not have the STOW line. I do however descend from William WARD through my GGGrandmother Sabrina WARD who married Israel PHILLIPS. Both where from Ashfield and Buchland Mass.. I've only done this site because ... well it is a lot of fun and Marlborough does have a great history. The STOW info for the genealogy was from Hudsons book as I've noted. The history of the family (which I have more on) was from various sources as is noted. I am always looking for more on all of the families. ......john ---------- > From: Warren Wetmore <WebMerlin@MegsINet.net> > To: CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [CRV] Savage book is online in html format! > Date: Sunday, November 19, 2000 5:53 AM > > We should not forget that the original OCR work on Savage was > done by Robert Kraft and Benjamin Dunning. > > John, is that your STOW line on > > http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~historyofmarlborough/famil > ystow.htm#STOW > > ? > > I descend from John/1 STOW and Elizabeth BIGGE via Thomas/2's > brother the Rev. 3. We should not forget that the original OCR work on Savage was done by Robert Kraft and Benjamin Dunning. John, is that your STOW line on http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~historyofmarlborough/famil ystow.htm#STOW ? I descend from John/1 STOW and Elizabeth BIGGE via Thomas/2's brother the Rev. Samuel. The family wasn't from Middx and Lincs; it was from Biddenden, Co. Kent with a possible branch in London (John STOW, the celebrated historian). 3. Warren and all that transcribed "A GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY of THE FIRST SETTLERS OF NEW ENGLAND, SHOWING THREE GENERATIONS OF THOSE WHO CAME BEFORE MAY, 1692, ON THE BASIS OF FARMER'S REGISTER. BY JAMES SAVAGE, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE MASSACHUSETTS" I have been using scanned images and using Omni Pro to convert to text. Unfortunately, I have done all of the names for my site The History of Marlborough, and know what a difficult and labor intensive job this is. As I look over the files transcribed by you folks, I see that some of my "interpretations" of words were not quite correct. Congratualtions and applause to all of you.... a major benefit for all of those researching thier ancestors. Please visit my site: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~historyofmarlborough/ Contains information on the following families: AMSDEN, ARNOLD, AXTELL, BANISTER, BARNARD, BARNES, BENT, BENDER, BIGELOW, BOWKER, BRIGHAM, EAGER, EAMES (AMES), FAY, FELTON, GLEASON, GODDARD, GOODALE, GOODENOW, HAGER, HAPGOOD, HOWE (HOW), HUDSON, JOHNSON, KERLY, MAYNARD, MORSE, NEWTON, RICE, STOW, WARD and WOOD.
