    3. I guess it qualifies as genealogy and not politics, but the term does definitely apply to shoe makers. See <http://www.thehcc.org/> for the details. Josiah was killed in the Mexican War in Cuba in 1851 I think it was. I know the Webster and Whitcomb's were lifing in Hartford, VT according to the Census Index. Thank you. Dot

    1. [CRV] Politics (to Cynthia)
    2. Lester M Powers
    3. Cynthia Now that the subject of politics has flared up on the list, well, it reminds me of a question I had earlier, but didn't get around to asking. In your post awhile back about Brimfield soldiers in Shays' Rebellion, you cited "History of Brimfield, Mass," page 348. At the bottom of the left-hand column you list my cousin Thomas COOLEY. But, you DON'T specify for sure which side of the conflict Thomas Cooley served on! Was he one of the bad guys (for the State of Massachusetts), or was he one of the good guys (the Shays' rebels, along with my other ancestors)? Implied in your post is that he was on the State's side; i.e., one of those bad people, but this is not explicit. Please mention which side. Thank you. Having disregarded his advice r.e. the former on this list you can be certain I'll not rise to the (de)bait r.e. the later. I do agree, however; this is a great list and one too good to unsub. just because my sensibilities have been somehow offended (they haven't been, I assure you - but then, I'm not certain I have any). Too many thin skinned folk, I say. Ken Roberts

    3. Just ignore the guy. He's only trying to make trouble. He's not the moderator of this list, so where are his numbers even coming from? I only seen one or two messages on the Political statement. The rest have been nothing even worth talking about. Cynthia's earlier post shows she's on top of the situation. Let's just stick to genealogy. If we won't play, then he has nobody to play with. 2. Lester M Powers
    3. Cherryl Ball -- When you do those lookups in the "History of Hartford, VT" could you also look up the dates of "The Second Division of Hundred Acre Lots" and "The Second Division of Fifty Acre Lots"? Hartford being Hartford, Windsor Co., VT. The latter, or maybe both, might be 1779, or maybe 1776, just guessing (my guess makes no sense really, but some collateral dates so suggest). My ancestor Rowland POWELL seems to have obtained his first farm at Hartford from the above Divisions, which would date his arrival there. He got a deed in 1779, but I can't tell if that's just catch-up stuff. Lester Powers lesterps@juno.com ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 2. Lester M Powers
    3. I dimly remember reading something somewhere a couple of years ago about how George Washington made a special big deal out of recruiting shoe makers in the American Revolution. Does anyone remember any specifics about that? This may be a wild idea, but I have just found on a 1779 Hartford, Windsor Co., VT deed that Rowland POWELL, one of my ancestors, did not travel from Lebanon, CT directly to Hartford, VT as previously advertised, but rather laid over at Brimfield, MA in between. And on his 1779 deed at Hartford, VT he is mentioned as being a "cordwainer," i.e., a maker of shoes. Also, he is believed by various folks to have served in the American Revolution, and he is listed as a private in the Revoultion in the DAR Patriot Index. This jiggled that old dusty half-memory that George Washington made special efforts to get shoe makers enlisted. Where did I hear about the shoe maker thing? What was that? 3. Maureen: Since the apology is not related to the flame war you started and I have warned you....... as of tonight you will be removed from the list. I was not demanding a recount. Maureen p.s.Either side would have demanded a recount. 3. You were warned.....you are being removed from the Ct-River-Valley-L and the Ma-Bay-Colony-L Cynthia listowner of both ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: Lrcrowder@aol.com Reply-To: CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2000 11:41:39 EST Hi, I just have to say that I totally disagree with you, but you have a right to your opinion! I don't feel that using a mailing list to send everyone your thought on who should or shouldn't be President is right!!! If this happens again, I will unsubscribe.
