I seem to have hit a brick wall with these two. I find many Webb ancestors from the area, I just cannot connect them to these two. Anyone out there researching this family???? Jan

    1. [CRV] Decatur
    2. Hank Morris
    3. My widowed paternal grandmother, Belle Winship Morris of Monrovia CA had an elderly lady living with her many years ago when I was a child, my first recollection of the lady being in the mid-1930s. She was Mrs Decatur and she was from Massachusetts. I have vague recollections that she tumbled down the stairs and died from whatever injuries she sustained. My grandmother was from New Haven CT and her maiden name was Belle Winship Benham. I have a small Bible believed to have been Mrs. Decatur's; most probably I got it while we were cleaning out my grandmother's home prior to selling it. I guess Mrs Decatur probably arrived after the 1920 census, or at least she's not shown as a member of the household. >From a clipping in the Bible, she had a prior husband, as her name is given as Mrs Mary Anna Theresa Gould and she married George Albert Decatur, 22 Nov 1894 in Lynn MA. There is nothing in the Bible concerning Mrs. Decatur's prior marriage, maiden name, or children, if any. Mr. Decatur died 3 Nov 1911. From a notice of his death, Mr. Decatur was born 30 Oct 1849 in Barrington NH to Joseph and Hannah (Abbott) Decatur. Mr. Decatur left three brothers, William H. and Hiram of Littleton MA and Nathaniel of Westford, and three sisters, Mrs. Samuel Naylor of West Chelmsford, Mrs. Francis Locke of Lowell and Mrs. Annie Mason of New York. Mr. Decatur had been a member of the Lowell lodge, B.P.O.E. (Elks) and the Passaconaway tribe, I.O.R.M. of Lowell. "I.O.R.M" stands for "Improved Order of Red Men", apparently America's oldest fraternal order chartered by Congress, but I don't believe it is connected with the Indians. The frail little leather-bound Bible has a written notation on the inside cover. "Edward Jones, wounded June 18, 1864, died June 22 1864, battle at Petersburg VA, June 18 1964". I've no idea who Jones was. I would be interested if any C-R-V listers know anything of Mrs. Decatur, her husband and Edward Jones. Please cross-post to your hearts content and include my email address <morris@jetlink.net>. Sincerely Henry Morris

Warren Delano married Catherine Lyman, and Sarah Delano married James Roosevelt. Other surnames in the tree are: Cooke, Willcox, Perry Church, Hathaway and Swift. Good Luck! Terre

Maybe some other descendants can > add in the rest. > Charlie ><snip> >> Zebulon Delano-HUSBAND OF LUSINA >> Lusina Delano-[Powell]DAUGHTER-[wife] OF ZEBULON Well, then I suppose this makes one other list member, Gordon Delano (GWoodbutcher@aol.com), who wrote a Delano query here a few days back, an in-law. I had thought that ol' Rowland just dumped the farm on 'em when he retired. Maybe tax problems and all. <grin> Gordon Delano had asked if the "History of Hartford" (Tucker, 1889) has goodies on the Delanos. I see now that there are two or three whole pages of nothing but Delanos in the "Genealogies" chapter, on pages 412 to 413 or 414. I do not have the text of this. Maybe someone can talk Cherryl Ball into a lookup. Maybe Gordon has already done that, off-list. "History of Hartford" also has writeups in the "Genealogies" chapter for the Marsh, Richards, Savage, and Tilden families among others (Luther Powell married a Marsh). So, there's microfilm renting to be done anew in January. I hope I get an in-focus film next time. Meanwhile, my local LDS FHC has only two more open days before a two-week holiday shutdown, and I must decide whether to spend that with the Revolution (found Vermont Powells on Revolutionary fiche there the other day), or land deeds at Hartford. S'pose I'll do the Revolution to figure out where the devil the other Powells were (like your Elisha) around 1775-1779esque. And, when I'm a little less foggy, maybe I'll ask listmom Cynthia (the one who posted 20 copies of the SAME Malden paupers in a dump d'etat) for a Powell lookup in the Brimfield, MA history book. She already showed a Rowland Powell as "paid for service" as a Revolutionary hero at Brimfield in 1779 -- maybe there's more -- after she calms down following my dump d'etat joke. Sigh. So much to do; so few jokes. Lester Powers lesterps@juno.com ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 2. The Delano line came to America, Nov. 9, 1621 aboard the "Fortune". Philippe DeLaNoye, a 19 year old of French ancestry arrived and joined the colony at Plymouth. He married Hester Dewsbury. The Delano's at Goshen descended from Philippe. Regards, Gordon Delano
