    2. FIRST GENERATION 1. Squire HOWE was born in 1751. He died on 20 Nov 1807 in Fabius, Onondaga, New York. History of the Town of Northfield, Massachusetts, by J. H. Temple and George Sheldon, published by Joel Munsell, 82 State St., Albany, N.Y., 1875. p. 470 He was but four years old when taken captive, but in 1790, scars on his head bore testimony to the brutality of the savages; in 1806 he removed to Fabius, N.Y., where he died. Vermont Families in 1791, Edited by Scott A. Bartley, Genealogical Society of Vermont, Special Publication Number 1, Picton Press, Camden, Maine. p. 112. Was born circa 1751 (Howe, 89) probably Vernon (then Hinsdale) [Pension #W16294]. Squire with his mother Jemima, brothers and sisters, was taken captive by Indians at Fort Bridgeman, Vernon (then Hinsdale), on 1755 Jun 27. A little over three years later, Jemima and her sons William, Caleb and Squire were ransomed and returned to Northfield, Mass. in October of 1758. Squire was a Revolutionary War soldier serving at Roxbury, MA on 1775 Nov 01 and 1776 Mar 11. He was a gunner in Col. Knox's Artillery Regt. and promoted to bombardier on 1776 Oct 04. He served at Ticonderoga, Essco Co., NY for the year of 1776. He was elected to Third Lieutenant, Elliott's Regt. of RI troops in June of 1777, First Lieutenant in February of 1778 and appointed Captain Lieutenant on 1779 Mar 16 by Gov William Greene of Rhode Island. He later served as a captain of the company of horse assisting the sheriff at Guilford in September of 1782. [Pension #W16294] During a leave from war service, Squire married Martha Field in Vernon (then Hinsdale) at the home of Moses Howe, his brother. She was a school teacher at Vernon. After the war, Squire and Martha raised their family on the Sartwell farm in Vernon. Squire's mother Jemima lived with them [Pension #16294]. After Jemima's death, Squire removed his family to Fabius, Onondaga Co., NY in the Spring of 1806 [Howe, 89]. IGI lists her birth date as May 7, 1804, daughter of Thomas Fowler & Elizabeth Stewart (b.1770 & daughter of John Stewart & Rebecca Stewart of Colrain, Mass.). Questions: 1.
