History of Deerfield, Volume II, by George Sheldon, Published by E. A. Hall & Co., Greenfield, MA, 1896. p. 393 Settled in Wapping; selectman 5 years; ordained deacon Dec. 26, 1760; he was a plain man with plain habits; it is told, as characteristic of the man, that he left directions to have no brass nails on his coffin, and that flax strings should be used in place on the usual iron handles. Brass headed nails were commonly used on the coffin lid to mark the initials and age of the occupant; he went to an extreme far less offensive to good taste than the funeral display often dictated by vanity or fashion in our day. His mother had been urging him to marry; when Reuben Bardwell came into meeting with his bride, Asahel whispered to his mother, "I'll get married when I can find another like her;" when Lucy was left a widow 3 months later, his mother did not fail to remind him of his remark and urge him to action. He whispered to his mother, saying to her that when he could find such a girl as Lucy, why, he wouldn't hesitate to get married. Reuben died in three months. After a suitable time his mother called his attention to the matter and he, nothing loth, sought an interview with the young widow, offered her his heart and hand and was accepted. The History of the Town Whately, Mass. 1661 - 1899, by James M. Crafts, published by D.L. Crandall, Mann's Bloch, Orange, Mass. 1899. p. 595. He, like his brother Joh, was much engaged in military affairs and often led scouts nearly to Canada and destory the enemy at the commencement of hostilities. Ther went up the river 120 miles and then struck off the French river and then to Lake Champlain where they met tow canoes loaded with Indians and a battle ensued. One Indian was killed and scalped, then being discovered they started homeward. He was married to Mary WARNER on 22 Sep 1720. 7. Mary WARNER was born about 1693. She died on 18 Aug 1792 in Whately, Franklin, Massachusetts. The History of the Town Whately, Mass. 1661 - 1899, by James M. Crafts, published by D.L. Crandall, Mann's Bloch, Orange, Mass. 1899. p. 594 - 5. Leaving six children, forty-five grandchildren, ninty-eight great-garndchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In here extreme age her mental faculties almost entirely failed here. She required to be fed and would amuse herself playing with her doll, dressing and undressing it and fondling it like a young girl. About a week before she died. Her mind suddenly brightened and she repeated the whole of the assembly's shorter catchism, questions and answers and proof texts. She then gradually sunk away and died. She was living with her daughter who married Capt. Salmon White of Whately. Lt. Joseph WAITE and Mary WARNER had the following children: i. Rhoda WAITE was born on 21 Aug 1721 in Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts. ii. David WAITE was born on 7 Dec 1722 in Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts. She died on 21 Jun 1821 in Whately, Franklin, Massachusetts. The History of the Town Whately, Mass. 1661 - 1899, by James M. Crafts, published by D.L. Crandall, Mann's Bloch, Orange, Mass. 1899. p. 620 - 621. For many years she was a midwife and is said to have officiated at the birth of over one thousand children in Whately and adjoining towns, turning out day or night and mounted on the back of her sure-footed horse, never hesitated to ride in the darkest night upon a smart gallop. I have often heard old people tell of her daring riding in the dark, when they felt afraid to keep up with her. In her saddle bags she carried all that she needed. Her mother lived with her some years before she died at the great age of 99 years, 9 months, dying 18 Aug 1791. In her extreme age her mental faculties almost entirely failed her and for several years she was literally in her second childhood, having to be fed, and would amuse herself by dressing and undressing her doll, and other childish sports. About a week before her death, her mind suddenly brightened up and she spoke intelligently of the Rev. Mr. Williams of Hatfield, her former pastor, and repeated the whole of the assembly's shorter catechism, questions, answers and proof texts. Then she gradually sunk away and died as a candle goes out in its socket.

    2. Why don't you do what someone suggested earlier and have the first person who applied manage the site. The Listers don't really know these people well enough to 'vote.' I say seniority or Place in Line wins. Coralynn

    1. [CRV] Hannah Osborn, the daughter of John Osborn
    2. Donna
    3. I need help in getting my Hannah Osborns straighten out. The John Osborn that married Ann Oldage (only child of Richard Oldage) They had a daughter Hannah on Dec 18, 1657 at Windsor, Weymouth, MA. Does anyone have the birth records for this town to see if it was 1657 or 1651 and if it listed parents.? According to Ancestry website below they have this Hannah (John and Ann Oldage Osborn) married 1st to Elias Shadock (DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT Year?) and Benjamin Eggleston in 1678. In the 2nd website below it has this same Hannah (of John and Ann Oldage Osborn) born in Dec 18 1651 and married to John Ashcraft (September 12, 1670 in Stonington, New London County Connecticut.) He died in 1680 and she married second? Deliverance Blackman (1695 in Stonington, New London County Connecticut ). Now in Savage it lists the Shaddock and Eggleston marriages A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before 1692 Volume #3 By James Savage http://www.usgennet.org/usa/vt/state/savage/bk3/oderic-osier.htm OSBORN, OSBOURN, or OSBURN, . JOHN, Weymouth, by w. Mary had John, b. 2 Feb. 1640; and Ephraim, 11 Aug. 1657; but how many or wh. intermediate, is not found; yet his d. Mary m. 7 May 1659, John Ross. JOHN, Windsor, m. 19 May 1645, Ann, only ch. of Richard Oldage, had John, b. 10 Jan. 1646; Ann, 15 Jan. 1648; Nathaniel, 10 Mar. 1650; Samuel, 25 July 1652, d. soon; Mary, 16 Apr. 1655; Hannah, 18 Dec. 1657; Samuel, again, 8 May 1660; Esther, 9 Aug. 1662; Isaac, 28 Sept. 1664, d. at 9 yrs.; and Sarah, 8 Feb. 1667. He d. 27 Oct. 1636, when were liv. beside John, Nathaniel, and Samuel, all the ds. exc. Ann, wh. m. 12 Nov. 1663, Humphrey Prior, and had left two s.; Mary, m. 22 Oct. 1674, Josiah Owen; Hannah, m. Elias Shadduck, and next, m. 6 Mar. 1678, Benjamin Eggleston Savage also mentions a Hannah Osborne marrying Ashcraft: A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before 1692 Volume #1, Pgs 63 - 73 By James Savage ASHCRAFT, JOHN, Stonington 1662, m. 12 Sept. 1670, Hannah Osborne, had John, b. 1671; Hannah, 1675; Ephraim, 1677; and Mary, 1680. Prob. descend. are there; and one Thomas A. mariner from Boston, d. Sept. 1724, at Bay of Honduras, leav. will made here 13 Jan. 1723. In the third webpage has her married to first Ashcraft, then Shaddock then Eggleston. However, if she married Ashcraft in 1670, Shaddock in 1676 and Eggleston in 1678 There is a problem in Ashcraft didn't die in 1680! (The Minor Diaries) And what about poor Deliverance Blackman who was supposed to have married her in 1695. Eggleston didn't die until 1709? So the Hannah Osborn I care about is the wife of John Ashcraft. who was her mother if not Ann Oldage??? I check Worldconnect and most people have her with 3 -4 husbands. ____________________________________________________________________________ _____ 1st webpage http://members.aol.com/jancestry/JAncestry/newpage17.htm **** Source: The Descendants of John Porter, Volume II I. 3. Donna, I believe you may have the wrong county and state. By the 1650's, the Osborn's (I am descended from Mindwell, d/o John and Abigail (Eggleston) Osborn) had settled in Windsor (later HARTFORD County, CT). Try checking these records out. -----Original Message----- From: Donna [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, May 26, 2002 4:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CRV] Hannah Osborn, the daughter of John Osborn I need help in getting my Hannah Osborns straighten out.
