    2. Susan S. Moore
    3. Sandi Sorry, no luck finding Lewis or Abigail in the Taylor book. I also checked both lines in Stiles, just in case - nothing there either. I often wonder what Shaker records we might be missing......?, were the Shaker b/d/m all listed with the towns? Also, what was that community doing in that time frame? Was it attracting new immigrants to the area at that time? Are we so locked into finding our ancestors on the first boatload that we overlook the last boatload? susan moore tolland, ma

    1. [CRV] Middlesex County, CT Ancestors
    2. Hi Listers, My ancestors are from MA, CT, or RI into NY. My BROWNS suddenly appear in Rensselaer County, NY in the mid-1700s, and there are quite a few 'traditons' about just where they migrated from. But I have a good handle on some Middlesex County CT ancestors: HUBBARD is my specialty, with many families that settled Haddam, CT. ARNOLD, BROOKS, SPENCER, SHAILER(many spellings), many of which can be found on Tim Tuckers' site: www.haddam.com I have a huge number of databases to draw from, most online. Some put there by me, some by others. If you haven't seen Jane Devlin's wonderful site with over 400 databases, the url is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin I notice that several people on the List have ancestors who ended up in northern NY State, Lewis County, Oneida County, etc. etc. Usually going from CT to NNY. Since NY State is "the black hole of genealogy: your ancestors go in and leave no records, no trace" or maybe it's more like the Burmuda Triangle, some super ambitious person may take it into his/her head to get up a database of just those families. (Not me!) Coralynn

    1. [CRV] Exciting addition to Wakeman OH genealogy site
    2. Claudia Garner
    3. Good Morning, everyone, The Wakeman Ohio site has an exciting addition. One of our local residents donated the transcription of the Diary of Laura Clark, dated 1818, and it has been online on the Wakeman site. This diary was her day to day life after arriving in the area in 1818. Through the wonders of the internet, another person stumbled onto the Wakeman site. This man has the transcription of the diary of Laura Clark during her journey from Milford, CT to Wakeman, OH. Now the two diaries are united. Isn't the internet an amazing tool! Please check the Wakeman site for an amazing story. http://wakeman-ohio.com/wakeman-ohio/ Thanks, Claudia Garner Webmaster _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

    1. [CRV] Simpson Clapp Clark Buck
    2. Brent and Marla Larson
    3. Hi, My ties to CRV are numerous. Here are my two main brick walls. Charles SIMPSON married Abigail KING 4 Jun 1778 in Brookfield, Worcester Massachusetts. They also lived in Ware and Palmer Massachusetts. I am looking for Abigail (KING) SIMPSONS death date. I am looking for the following of their children: Betsey Simpson b. 27 Nov 1780 Brookfield Nabby Simpson b. 16 Feb 1779 Brookfield Charles Simpson, Jr. b. 6 Apr 1782 Brookfield Francis Simpson b. 29 Oct 1786 Ware a possible daughter Nora b. ? [I really don't think there is a daughter with this name. Others list her.] Charles Simpson had another son Lyman SIMPSON. He is my direct line. Lyman SIMPSON married Mary Ann CLAPP probably in Western New York. I strongly believe Mary Ann CLAPP was the daughter of Adolphus CLAPP and Hannah POMEROY. I would like documentation to prove that. I also need proof that Adolphus CLAPP married Hannah POMEROY. Both were born in Southampton and also lived in Easthampton. I have lots of information that points to the above relationships but no documentation to prove it. The above lines are my father's lines. Now for my real brick wall. It is on my mother's lines. I would dearly love to find the parents of Elizabeth Clark born 24 Oct 1790 Her father was Thomas CLARK and her mother was Anna BUCK. I believe all were born in the CRV and most likely New London County, Connecticut. They may also have live in Western Massachusetts. Elizabeth CLARK married Levi BRACKEN probably in Hamilton County, Ohio. I would dearly love to knock down this brick wall. My mother researched this family for years and found nothing. Marla

    2. Greetings to Karima and CRV members. My connection to the CRV begins with Farrs and Lanes in Keene and Swanzey, NH. Farrs go back into Chesterfield, NH, connect with Hills in Swanzey who go back into Beldings, Dickinsons et al who have been so expertly documented on this list over the last six months or so by Paul Wallred. I would be happy to do lookups in Read's History of Swanzey if any researchers have a question. Richard Putnam Putnam's Store Wilton, NH

    1. [CRV] My CT River Valley Connection
    2. My CT River Valley Connection is that I live in a suburb of Hartford. I was born in the Hartford area as were my parents. My maternal grandparents were born in Sweden although my grandfather grew up in Hartford and most of his siblings were born in Hartford. My paternal grandfather was born in Iowa, and my paternal grandmother was born in New Brunswick, Canada. My paternal greatgrandfather was born in Pennsylvania in and his family moved further and further west during the 1800's. I am researching that line all over the country. In addition to this list I also belong to the Hartford and Middlesex County lists in this area. Although I don't take requests, I try to help people looking for information in this area. I pick and choose what I do by what I think I can do and what I have time to do. Doing this has given me much practical, hands-on experience using various types of sources to do genealogical research. This type of learning is helping me research my own family long distance. I also believe in following the Golden Rule, Do for others as you would have others do for you. Marilyn Newington, CT

    1. [CRV] Hello from your new list adminsitrator . . .
    2. Karima
    3. Dear Members, Please forgive my delay in formally introducing myself to you (although many of you may already know me from the Vermont-List). I want to let you know how excited I am about becoming the new administrator for the Connecticut River Valley List. Cynthia's shoes will be impossible to fill, but thankfully she is still among us and has promised to continue sharing her vast experience and knowledge. I thought it would be a good time to give a status report on the membership of the list. As of this evening, there are 248 subscribers to CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L and 118 subscribers to CT-RIVER-VALLEY-D, for a total of 366 members. So, as you can see, we have a great membership base. However, we must remember that this list, or any list, will only be as active and helpful as the participation of the members. This would be a good time to let the other members of the list know something about our Connecticut River Valley connections, what information we are looking for, and what we can offer to the other members of this list in terms of sharing research and/or resources. NOTE - and this is important: I am not suggesting what is commonly referred to as a "ROLL CALL" On a list this large, that would be a real disaster. So, please do not put "ROLL CALL" in the subject line. I am, however, suggesting that we introduce ourselves to the other list members, and post at least one inquiry in regard to the research we are doing. This will be much more productive than just sending a list of surnames to the list - and you can send as many different queries as you like. So, if you have posted inquiries to the list, and still don't have the answers you are seeking, take this opportunity to post them again. VERY IMPORTANT and helpful to all of us: Please let your fellow list members know if you have resource material you can share and if you are willing to do some "lookups" [be sure to set YOUR guidelines for the information you require in order to do the lookups]. On another note - soon I will be adding a new section to the Vermont-L Web Site, which will be devoted to include the Connecticut River Valley sections of the states of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. I will go into the details of this later. If you are not familiar with the Vermont-L Web Site, you can visit it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/VERMONTGATEWAY.html Best wishes, Karima CT-RIVER-VALLEY List Administrator List Guidelines: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/CTRiverValleyWelcome.html
