One is my line, but his son John is not in my line, so I didn't copy John's children when I was there! I did look in the Frank Holmes book near the end of my stay, but I didn't have time to check this fact. Robert told me Rebecca Whitney is not in Pierce. My son found a book on the Starrs, Burgess Pratt's book, and when it said Josiah Starr married, it has "Rebekah Whitney (?)". So Pratt was not sure. maybe it is another name. I was just starting to look for this marriage in Torrey when my wife demanded that we leave. I can probably find Torrey here unless one of you know it is on line. 1. [CRV] GOULD, Nahum - son of Thomas Gould & Abigail Chase
    2. File updated: June 26, 2003 First Generation 1. Nahum GOULD was born on 25 Dec 1798 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts. He died on 30 Jun in Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska. Obituaries - Original newspaper copy pasted into The History of The Town of Warwick, Mass., by Hon. Jonathan Blake, Published by Noye, Holmes, and Company, 219 Washington Street, Boston, Mass., 1873. Book location: Denver Public Library, Denver, CO. June 12, 2003. Father Gould as his brethren in Nebraska have loved to call him was born in Warwick, Franklin County, Mass., Dec. 25, 1798, and died at Kearney Junction, Neb., June 30th, surrounded by many of his numerous children and grand children. He graduated at Amherst College in 1825, and studied theology with Rev. Dr. John Woodbridge and Rev. Daniel A. Clark. He was licensed in 1826 by Pawlet Association, and preached at McDonough and Smithville, N.Y., and in 1827 was ordained by Chenango Prsebytery. Subsequently he preached for several year in Cataraugus and Brown counties, N.Y., and was installed pastor at Union, Brown County. During these early years of evangelistic labors in New York, he was rewarded by many fruitful revivals. In 1834 he removed to Illinois, then an almost unbroken prairie, where his life's labors were mainly given. The writer of this sketch is unable to give a just and complete summary of the results of his labors in that State, but can refer to the fact that he organized numerous Presbyterian Churches, among which were Union Grove, Hennepin, Barley's Point, Plainfield, Rockwell, Peru, Pawpaw, Homer, Indian Creek, Northville, and Somonauk, the last tow of which he was installed pastor about twelve years. He was also the installed pastor of some others here named. Having an eye to the exterior of Christ's kingdom, and forecasting the future rapid development of Nebraska, he removed to Kearney Junction, took a homestead in the immediate vicinity, while as yet scarcely a house had been erected in the now prosperous city and all the enthusiasm of a vigorous manhood improved it, and made his house the hospitable mansion and central home for Presbyterian Church, he secured the early organization of a church in Kearney Junction, preached to it and to other churches as much and more than his feeble health would justify. To his zeal and foresight is the Presbyterian Church in Nebraska indebted more than to any other person, for the organization of the Presbytery of Kansas, which was constituted by the Synod of Iowa South, and held its first meeting in his house Nov. 1873, and had present but five ministers and two elders, and of which he was the first moderator. And for like reasons are we indebted to him especially for the existence of the Synod of Nebraska, for which he strove earnestly as of most vital importance to the church in Nebraska, and won it from the General Assembly on the last day of its sessions in 1874, at St. Louis. This was the eight meeting of the General Assembly of which he had been a commissioner. He presided at the first meeting of the Synod of Nebraska in 1874, and preached the first sermon before it. His death was hastened by his great devotion to the claims of the feeble, vacant churches. While holding a sacramental meeting with a Presbyterian Church of Wood River, where on Saturday, at the preparatory service he had received eight persons into the church, he was on Sabbath morning seized with illness, which proved fatal on Wednesday following. Thus a father in our Church as gone to his reward, one whom we all revered and delighted, with his large and widely scattered family, to hold in great honor. He fell as he wished, with his armor on, and yet in the bosom of his family and of the community whose best interests he sought to develop. A large congregation gathered at his home, and the pastors of the Methodist and Congregational churches of Kearney Junction, and of the Presbyterian Church of Hastings united in speaking of his worth and works to the people, and followed this funeral memorial by also uniting in the baptism of his four grand children, which he was to have baptized at the next communion services. He has left a sweet savor of good words and worked, and we mourn his departure. 3. Karima: Not sure if this qualifies for your list, but I have a website which includes genealogies of New England families prior to about 1900. So far, this listing includes all the Genealogical info from McKeen's "History of Bradford, Vermont." In the future, I plan on adding more info from other Vermont local histories (along with the other 5 New England states). REight now, I am working on Hanover, Mass, and after that (or duing it for a break), the Genealogy of Phehas Pratt. You can find the dataset at: http://orcuttfamily.topcities.com (click on the second link, not the first, which is the Orcutt family database :) STeve D. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Subject: > [CRV] Personal Web Sites Pertaining to Research in Vermont > From: > "Karima" <Karima@springnet1.com> > Date: > Sun, 22 Jun 2003 12:51:00 -0500 > To: > CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com > > >Good Morning, > >If any of you have personal web sites which pertain to research in Vermont, >and you would like to have them included on the Gateway to Vermont Web Site, >please let me know. Melville Reuben Webster, D.D. 1st Edition, Published by Endless Genealogies, St. Paul, printed by: E. R. Andrews Printing Co., Rochester, N. Y. 1915. p. 203. Ephriam Webster was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was a private in Cap't Nehemiah Rice's 3d Co. Lt. Col. Isaac Sherman's 5th Conn. Reg't. Joined July 24, 1782, probably to serve to Jan. 1,1783. On musters from July 29, 1782, to Oct. 13,1782. For Sep. and Oct. he was noted as "on command," Quarter Master's general service. On a book of Conn. soldiers he is reported as in Cap't Selden's Co., Col. S.B. Webb's Reg't, and discharged Dec. 9, 1782. From the record of Connecticut Men in the Revolution, Ephriam Webster is borne as a private on the Lexington Alarm List for six day's service in Cap't timothy Cheney's Co., in April, 1775, and was from the town of Hartford. He appears in a list of persons who signed a petition in 1772 for the formation of a new Society, which was set off from East Hartford and called the Parish of Orford, now Manchester, Ct. (From "The One Hundredth Anniversary of the First Church of Manchester.") He was made elector at East Hartford, Apr. 12,1784. deeds on East Hartford land records: 1782, Apr. 12, Ozias Bidwell (Bissell?) to Ephriam Webster, and same date, Ephriam Webster to Allen Olcott, Theodore Pitkin and Robert McKee. 1789, Joseph Mckee is mentioned in one of Ephriam Webster's deeds. 1791, Nov. 25, Ephriam Webster, Nathaniel Olcott and Robert McKee, 1793, Feb 25, Ephriam Webster, Zebulon Bidwell, land in Fourth tier from Bolton, Orford Parish, Asahel McKee, witness. 1793, March 22, Ephriam Webster to George Griswold, bounded east on Bolton line. 1793, Apr. 13, Ephriam Webster to Robert Mckee, Jr. of Orford. He removed from Vernon, or East Hartford to Farmington with an ox team in April, 1792, and lived in the romanta Porter house on the right bank of the Farmington river, just above the bridge of the New Haven and Northampton Railroad. He purchased a farm in the West District of Farmington, consisting of about 200 acres and on the banks of the river. This must have been about the time slavery was abolished in Conn., for he had in his family an old colored woman, Aunt Chloe by name, an ex-slave, and the authorities of Farmington objected to his bringing her into the town fearing she might come upon the town for support, so Ephriam built a basement room to his house which Aunt Chloe occupied until her death. He was a great worker and a good provider for his family. Not being able to read or write he always "made his mark," but he could count money and always correctly. He always had morning prayers, his wife reading the scriptures and he offering the prayer which never varied; he went to evening service at the school house and offered the same prayer. J. Erskin Webster, Fredonia, N.Y., July 16, 1893, writes: There were five brothers besides Ephriam Webster, who was not a brother (an uncle as it now appears), who settled on the Holland Purchase, New York state, within two miles of each other. The road took the name, "Webster Street." Ephriam lived here until his house burned, and everything he had; then he went back to Oneida Co. His wife is remembered as the introducer of penneroyal into this part of the country. She brought the seed from Oneida Co." viii. Eleazer WEBSTER was born on 4 Jan 1749 in East Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. He was Baptized on 28 Jan 1749 in Parish of Orford, Hartford, Connecticut. He died on 11 Aug 1819 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts. Will was probated on 22 Sep 1819 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts. 12. Ensign Daniel MARSH was Baptized on 30 Oct 1709.
