    3. The Rootsweb mailing lists will cease to function in about a week's time. If this is news to you, please read the older emails I've copied below. I've not had feedback from this list that anyone wants it to continue. You've had time to think about it now - would you like to see it continue elsewhere? Reply and let me know if you do, and I will set up a new group at groups.io - I've already done this for the groups that have responded positively. Wendy Howard List Owner/Admin ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Wendy Howard <wendy.howard@gmail.com> Date: Sun, Jan 12, 2020 at 2:04 PM Subject: The future/fate of RootsWeb Mailing Lists You are receiving this email because you are subscribed to a Rootsweb mailing list that I administer. As you can see below, the mailing lists at Rootsweb are going to cease functioning soon. If you would like to continue being a member of some sort of group on the topic of this list, please post back to the list where you're seeing this and say so. This list is extremely quiet and rarely sees any activity. Is there any point in continuing? Have you found a better place to exchange information that you can recommend to the other members of this list? - post and tell us about it if you have. If you feel there is still a need for something, no other suggestions are put forward, and you are prepared to participate as a member, I'm willing to make an effort to create a new forum in a suitable place. I'm not going to do all the work and have not activity from its members, so do think about it before replying. Suitable places include Google Groups (which act like mailing lists and message boards combined, and you don't have to have a Google account to be there, but it helps), and Facebook. If you have another suggestion, please let me know. Please take care to ensure any replies are sent to the mailing list, not to me personally, unless there is an administrative issue you wish to raise with me. It would be nice if the list went out with a flurry of activity as we all share our latest discoveries before it is turned off. Wendy ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: RootsWeb Administration <rwmailinglists@ancestry.com> Date: Wed, Jan 8, 2020 at 6:36 AM Subject: [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] RootsWeb Mailing Lists To: <rootsweb-listowners-announcements@rootsweb.com> Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team

    3. Hi everyone, The Rootsweb mailing lists have come back, so please feel free to post your on-topic queries once again. There is no archive for this list as I type this email, but a new one will be created with the first post sent out. The old archive will be reinstated in time. You are now able to manage your own settings for mailing lists - please see the link under the March 6 2018 update at http://rootsweb.com/ to set up your new Mailman login. This is not compulsory, unless you are also a Rootsweb mailing list owner. Wendy CRYER List Owner

    3. If you received the previous post, please do not click on the link in it (which I've removed in the copy below). The poster's email account has probably been hacked (or spoofed), and the link will likely take you somewhere nasty (for your computer's health, that is). Csage - please get in touch with me when you've regained control of your email account. At the very least, you should change its password. If the service is offered and practical for you, two-factor sign-in is very effective in preventing account hacking. I will endeavour to get that post removed from the archive. Please do not post to the list about this. If you must comment, please send your email to me directly. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard CRYER list owner csage@swbell.net said the following on 28/03/2014 6:54 p.m.: > Hello! <link removed by Wendy> > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to CRYER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
