Hi Everyone, This is a separate listing for Union Soldiers from Ed. He has put a lot of work into collecting and editing these records. I am very greatful that he is so willing to share his efforts with everyone. My best To All, Constance =============================================== Union Crump's buried in National Cemeteries These are just those buried in National Cemeteries. It does not include all the Union Crumps involved in the war. Ed At the end of the War Between the States the Government compiled a listing of all Union soldiers who were killed in battle and buried in National Cemeteries around the country. The list was published between 1865 and 1871. While I do not know the total number, I do know that that there were 27 volumes published. In 1994 Genealogical Publishing Company of Baltimore reprinted the "Roll of Honor" in ten volumes. The volumes do not have an Index, and are listed by cemetery. Some of them are in strict alphabetical order, and some only by the first letter of the surname. Some of the larger national cemeteries listed the soldiers buried there by state, so one must check each state to get the total picture. In addition, there were many that were unknown, perhaps as many as ten or fifteen percent. Having said that, this researcher did a page by page "search" of the volumes for any Crump that may be listed. The list following does not represent the Crumps who fought on the Union side of the conflict, but only those who died in it and are buried in national cemeteries. Another project scheduled for January 2000 will attempt to list all Crumps in the "Union Roster". Hopefully, that will follow before the end of January. Following is a listing of the results of this search with the name, unit, date of death, place of burial, and reference citation: 1. Elmore B. Crump, Pvt., Co. B, 89th Indiana (Inf.?) d. Jan 3, 1865, B.Jefferson Barracks near St. Louis, MO, Sec. 32 Grave No. 222. (Vol. 10, p. 109) 2. John Crump (Colored), Pvt. Co. B, 112th U.S.C.T., d. Sep. 15, 1864, B. Little Rock, AR, National Cemetery. (Vol. 7, p. 39) 3. Lewis Crump, Co. K, 14th Indiana Inf., d. Apr. 4, 1862, B. Winchester National Cemetery, Frederich Co., VA. (Vol 15, p. 191) And that's it! Certainly some were buried in family cemeteries, and some may be included in the "Unknowns", but with hundreds of thousands listed, it is clear that not many Crumps were in the "Union Camp".
