Vearl, yes, I can help with that. Dorman made that reference to Thomas in the first or second edition of Adventurers, then even made reference to it in the third edition. It's the fourth edition that is important. 2002 I think. A lot has been learned over the past ten years or so. You will also note that under the heading of Thomas Crump in the fourth edition that he only references John Crump as son. Look at the section on Hannah Boyle in that same edition and that's where you will find one of the William Crumps. Back when the first edition or so came out, it was not realized that there were two contemporary William Crumps in VA ca. 1645 or so. But when the records of York, later New Kent County came out, it became clear that there were two. Neither has any ties to Sgt. Crump that can be found. It's not impossible that one or the other of the Williams was a son of Thomas, but much of that had come from Kinfolks II in 1935 by Harllee, who only assumed because of the dates that William was son of Thomas. This new information is from publications in the 1970's, and then Bill Gann and Bonnie Flythe in the 1990's pretty much proved that there were two Williams and that it was almost impossible for either of them to have been a son of Thomas. That William was son of Thomas was suggested by Harllee in 1935 when he assumed because John had patented land in James City County in 1654 and William patented land in James City in 1656 that they were brothers. However, close research of Thomas and John does not support that. No William is mentioned in any reference to Thomas or john anywhere. William of Lancaster, later Talbot County, MD married Frances Mountney (well documented), and William of York, later New Kent County married Anne (last name unknown", and also documented. The key was finding out that William and Anne and William and Frances had signed doucments in different places on the same day. Additionally, DNA testing of more than thirty Crumps from one or the other lines show that they are not related, yet related to each other in the two respective lines. Another error in Advententurers in editions one through three was that one of the Williams married Mary Spelman. Actually she married Nicholas Porques, a frenchman. It's taken us a long time to figure out who all three of Hannah Boyle's daughters married, but we think we have it right now. Short answer to your question, but you can be sure that a number of us serious Crump researchers have been looking at this very closely for at least ten years. I for one do not believe that Sgt. Thomas had a son William.
