MS are almost impossible to read. However, Ancestry.Com has made the effort to try to interpret them. I see your William there in 1910 as being 8 years old with his father and a number of brothers and sisters. Since he is the only male there I must assume that he was named for his father, although Ancestry lists him as either Wilson or Willard. But, going back to the 1900 Census he is listed as Wilson or William. I cannot read either census so must rely on Ancestry this time. In any case, in 1910 "William" I will call him was shown as a Widower. Children's names were Elle (Ella?), Gurley (Curley?), William 8, Mile (Mille?), Mattie 5 and Fannie 4. In 1900 the census shows (William, Sr?) as born in VA in 1844. His wife was Lucy, but they were just married in 1899, so she was probably William (Jr.'s) mother and at least second wife to the father. A Black man in the 1840's and 1850's was probably a slave or the son of a slave and after the emancipation likely relocated to Mississippi. I think we should start from there. This is not going to be an easy task, but recommend we start with 1870 in Virginia and Mississippi. If we can find him in 1870, then the next step would be the slave schedules of 1850 and 1860. If we can find a William/Wilson/Willard there with any Crump family then we are in business. I would hope actually that his name was Wilson or Willard since they are both less common than William, but we will see what we will see. Think about this and let me know if ANY of these other names of siblings mean anything to you. Do not be too concerned about the spelling. Regards, and good luck! to us.
