As far as I know, nothing definitive in England was found about him. Following is a note from Ed Crump, Jr., a well-respected Crump researcher. "Over the past twenty years or so it has been assumed that William Crump of Lancaster County, Virginia, and later Cecil County, Maryland was married to Mary Spillman, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Boyle Spillman Hill Mountney. This theory was first proposed by long- time Crump researcher Wayne Guthrie (now deceased). He arrived at this conclusion because William Crump was named son-in-law to Hannah Mountney at some point. Hannah had a daughter by Hill (Elizabeth) and one by Spillman (Mary). No one knew of a child by Mountney, and taking everything into consideration, Guthrie suggested that Mary must have been William's wife. This was also before anyone realized that there was another William Crump in York County, VA, which later became New Kent County. That William was married to an Ann, so it was very confusing. When the York information became available Guthrie dropped William of Lancaster as a probable descendant of Sgt. Thomas Crump of Jamestown. The 3rd Revised edition of "Adventurers of Purse and Person" identifies the daughter of Alexander and Hannah Mountney as "Frances". It is known that when William of Lancaster Co. moved to Maryland in 1665 that his wife was "Frances". Most long-time Crump researchers now agree that William Crump of Lancaster was, in fact, married to Frances Mountney and was never married to Mary Spillman, and that there were definitely two William Crumps who were contemporary with each other. This is one of those cases where a theory by a knowledgable person got picked up as fact over the years and should now be corrected."
