Mr. Crump was born April 17, 1934, in Catawba County to the late Albert and Junie Powell Crump. He retired as a commercial artist and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In earlier years, he was a drag racer, competing in North and South Carolina. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was affectionately known as "Paw" to everyone. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Hudson Crump; a daughter, Sandy Atkinson and husband, Guy, of New London; two sons, Scott Crump of Concord and Danny Crump and wife, Janie, of Indian Trail; six grandchildren, Stacey Graham, Kevin Wright, Amy Storch, Jessica Lowe, Emily Crump and Daniel Crump; seven great-grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Daisy. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Tuesday, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, wit! h the Rev. James Pauley officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. Whitley's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
