Do we know anything new on the parents of William CRUMP (abt. 1629-abt 1684) of York Co., (later Kent Co.) VA? With the upcoming Jamestown anniversary celebration, I was wondering if we know where this CRUMP line first landed in America, as well as the country of origin. Judy Lawler Hart Co., KY 9Gr-Granddaughter of William CRUMP of York Co, VA through his son Stephan (abt 1655-1725).
Judy, unfortunately not. Personally, I think both the 1640's Williams immigrated rather than being born in VA, but obviously cannot prove it. One almost surely came from England, and both may have, but is not impossible that one or the other of them came from Ireland. Someday we may be able to figure this out. Sorry I can't tell what you would like to hear. When my family visited Jamestown in the summer of 1963, we saw the name Crump on one of the buildings. I believe it was on some kind of metal sign, rather small. At that time, none of the staff could give us any information on that. It has since become almost a family myth where we're not really sure this happened. I was eight at the time. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Does anyone have a picture of this? Do we (the collective we) know more about this person?
