Hello Everyone, As all of you have noticed there is a lack of messages coming through this list and others as well. Rootsweb is having problems, both yesterday and today. They are working on the problems as I write this. Just to let you know...it is not your server. Nor have you been removed from the list. Everything will be back to normal soon. Hello Everyone, Today will I was at the library I came across an entry for a CRUMP Pioneer in early Callaway Co., Missouri. It is from a book titled, "A HISTORY of the PIONEER FAMILIES of MISSOURI, by Wm S. Bryan and Robert Rose, Bryan, Brand, & Co., St. Louis, MO., 1876. Page 317. CRUMP. Richard Crump, of Virginia, was born in 1772, and was married in 1796 to Sarah Smith of that State. Their children were -- Lucinda, Turner, Nancy, Richard W.S., America, Thompson S. Henry S., Sally, Mary F., James S., John H., Benedict, and Lydia A. Mr. Crump settled in Callaway county in 1820. America, his third daughter, was drowned in the Kentucky river in 1819. His sons all made fortunes, and are good and highly respected citizens. Constance

Hi; I have just gotten listed on the Crump site, and am wondering what are the best sources of history on Crumps from the UK in the late 19th century and back. My father immigrated from England in 1902 at age 4, with his family, but we have no idea how to reconstruct the family tree back in London. His folks had no records, or pictures. My father was Albert Ernest Crump, born London England on June 20th 1898. His father was also Albert, but used Alfred as his name. Grandfather had married a Ferguson, and fought in the siege of Paris in 1870's(?). Rest is very sketchy. thanks. Edward Ernest Crump, Cambridge Ontario.
Hi Everyone, At the request of Ed, I thought I would explain how to use your "Reply" button to reply to a message you want to send to the whole list instead of just to the individual who sent the original message. If you have Netscape...If you receive a message from this list, or any list for that matter, and you want to send a reply. But you want the reply to go to the list and not just individual all you have to do is... click on the "Reply All" button on you tool bar, the message reply box will open and the message will be addressed to Both the sender and the list. You can then either delete out the address of the send to where all that is showing is the list named address or leave it. For those of you using Internet Explorer, I believe it is the same. But because I don't use I.E., I can't be sure. Maybe someone on the list using I.E. could tell us. There is one other way. But I am not sure many people would like it. I have seen several lists use this and most people really don't like it. How it is done... I set the list utilities so that ALL messages go back to the list when they are responded to, automatically. I will leave this up to you as to whether this is what you want. From personal experience this method is not very convenient at all. I hope this explanation is of some help. Try the "Reply All", using this message so you can see how it works. My Best To All, Constance
Subject: Re: [CRUMP] CROMPE Date:Thu, 17 Feb 2000 09:01:45 -0600 From: Ed Crump Jr <[email protected]> To: "Constance M. Diamond" <[email protected]> Constance, I am not sure if a "Reply" goes to the list, or just to the sender, so if this only comes to you and you consider it worthy of discussion then you can post it. Perhaps you can explain how we should use Reply when it is intended for the whold list. This message concerns Bridget and other "early" Conneticut Crumps: >From "Conneticut Puritan Settlers", Royal P. Huffman, Case, Tiffany and Company, Hartford, 1852, p. 768 (Call Number R929.1 H66) "CRUMP, THOMAS, of Hartford, was a servant of Gov. Hopkins, and d. in 1644-5. Andrew Bacon and George Graves, March 5, 1644/5, testified in Court, that were with Thomas _Crump_, when he was sick, not long before his death; he said "his debts being paid, he desired his master would doe w'th yt as he pleased," [his estate] and probably left no family. Thomas, was a defendant in Court, at Hartford, in a action of slander, in 1643; Gov Hopkins settled his estate, 1644-5; George _Crump_, of Hartford d. in 1644; Crombe, Alexander, 1663; Crompe, Bridget, &t, aged 18, embarked in the Merchant's Hope, Hugh Watson, Master, for Virginia, in 1635. This name is now found at New London, in Conn., and in Virginia." So, two things are obvious (1) the Merchant's Hope went to Conneticut after leaving England and before arriving in Virginia, and (2) there were Crumps in Conneticut before 1650! This is NOT the Sgt. Thomas of Jamestown, but I do not know who he is. In looking at a map of the United States, Conneticut is not as far from Virginia as one might imagine. It was clear that there was travel between the two. There were no Crumps in Conn. by the 1660's however. The references to the legal actions are readily available in the early legal books and records of Conn. Food for thought! Ed Crump in Louisiana (researching Crumps prior to 1730)
Seeing more Crumps from England on the list is exciting for me! Are any of you researching the family from James I (1603) to about George II (say 1727)? I am particularly interested in the Crumps who migrated to Ireland in the late 1600's, say from 1670 - 1700. I know they were English, but do not know why they went to Ireland. And I wonder if the Rev. Richard Crump of Ireland (1670-1737) was the son of Sir Richard Crump of Bristol. I know he had a son, Richard, but some have speculated that the son went to America. Sir Richard married (2) Margaret Howton, does anyone know his first wife's name? I am also interested in the James Crump who married Catherine Mayo in England in 1677. Thank you, Ed Crump in Louisiana, USA.

My great-great-great grandfather was John Crump, who was born in England (don't know where or when), and migrated to Canada. He married Janet McCallum in Perth, Ontario in 1820. I don't know where or when he died. His son Henry was born in 1822, and at some point moved to northern Michigan, settling on Burt Lake (near Petoskey). He married Amelia Highland, who was also from Ontario. Lynda
