    1. [CRUMP] Part X, UNION VETERANS 1861-1865
    2. Constance M. Diamond
    3. Union Crump Veterans 1861-1865 Abstracted from "The Roster of Union Soldiers 1861-1865", Edited by Janet B. Hewett, Published by Boradfoot Publishing Company, Wilmington, NC, 1997. This publication was in about fifteen-twenty volumes, and unlike the roster of Confederate Soldiers, this one is listed by state in separate volumes. Most of the southern states did not have records of the Union soldiers, and when this is the case I will at least give the number reported for Union Troops. Additionally, and interestingly, there were more Union Soldiers listed for Crump in the United States Colored Troops than in all the other published lists put together. That list is included here. While the states are not listed for the "Colored" troops, the unit is, so that can be determined from other sources. Keep in mind that there are three categories of states listed: 1. Those who had Crumps listed, 2. Those that did NOT have Crumps listed, and 3. Those that did not have lists available, but did have total number of Union Troops. My best To All, Constance =============================================== Union Crump's buried in National Cemeteries These are just those buried in National Cemeteries. It does not include all the Union Crumps involved in the war. Ed At the end of the War Between the States the Government compiled a listing of all Union soldiers who were killed in battle and buried in National Cemeteries around the country. The list was published between 1865 and 1871. While I do not know the total number, I do know that that there were 27 volumes published. In 1994 Genealogical Publishing Company of Baltimore reprinted the "Roll of Honor" in ten volumes. The volumes do not have an Index, and are listed by cemetery. Some of them are in strict alphabetical order, and some only by the first letter of the surname. Some of the larger national cemeteries listed the soldiers buried there by state, so one must check each state to get the total picture. In addition, there were many that were unknown, perhaps as many as ten or fifteen percent. Having said that, this researcher did a page by page "search" of the volumes for any Crump that may be listed. The list following does not represent the Crumps who fought on the Union side of the conflict, but only those who died in it and are buried in national cemeteries. Another project scheduled for January 2000 will attempt to list all Crumps in the "Union Roster". Hopefully, that will follow before the end of January. Following is a listing of the results of this search with the name, unit, date of death, place of burial, and reference citation: 1. Elmore B. Crump, Pvt., Co. B, 89th Indiana (Inf.?) d. Jan 3, 1865, B.Jefferson Barracks near St. Louis, MO, Sec. 32 Grave No. 222. (Vol. 10, p. 109) 2. John Crump (Colored), Pvt. Co. B, 112th U.S.C.T., d. Sep. 15, 1864, B. Little Rock, AR, National Cemetery. (Vol. 7, p. 39) 3. Lewis Crump, Co. K, 14th Indiana Inf., d. Apr. 4, 1862, B. Winchester National Cemetery, Frederich Co., VA. (Vol 15, p. 191) And that's it! Certainly some were buried in family cemeteries, and some may be included in the "Unknowns", but with hundreds of thousands listed, it is clear that not many Crumps were in the "Union Camp".

    3. Hi All, I have Internet Explorer, and yes it works the same as Netscape. Joyce -----Original Message----- From: Constance M. Diamond [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, February 17, 2000 11:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CRUMP] Replying to list Hi Everyone, At the request of Ed, I thought I would explain how to use your "Reply" button to reply to a message you want to send to the whole list instead of just to the individual who sent the original message. If you have Netscape...If you receive a message from this list, or any list for that matter, and you want to send a reply. But you want the reply to go to the list and not just individual all you have to do is... click on the "Reply All" button on you tool bar, the message reply box will open and the message will be addressed to Both the sender and the list. You can then either delete out the address of the send to where all that is showing is the list named address or leave it. For those of you using Internet Explorer, I believe it is the same. But because I don't use I.E., I can't be sure. Maybe someone on the list using I.E. could tell us. There is one other way. But I am not sure many people would like it. I have seen several lists use this and most people really don't like it. How it is done... I set the list utilities so that ALL messages go back to the list when they are responded to, automatically. I will leave this up to you as to whether this is what you want. From personal experience this method is not very convenient at all. I hope this explanation is of some help. Try the "Reply All", using this message so you can see how it works. My Best To All, Constance ______________________________

    3. I am researching Lucy D. Crump, born 1800 in Hanover Co. VA, married to John Hogarty in 1822 in Henrico Co., VA, and died in 1882 in Scott Co., Iowa. I have no knowledge of her parents and am wondering if anyone knows anything about Crumps in Hanover County (I know there is a Crump's Creek there!). The information about her birth comes from her Iowa cemetery record. The marriage info comes from Virginia marriage records. Her children are John Crump Hogarty, James D. Hogarty, Joseph Hogarty, Samuel Hogarty, Francis T. Hogarty, Martin Van Buren Hogarty, Ann Maria Hogarty, and Richard Mentor Hogarty (all children born in Ohio, according to the census- except for John- although the IGI says Virginia). After reading Constance's posting about the Missouri family of Richard Crump, born 1772, I am wondering if there might be a connection there. Does anyone know what happened to his daughter, Lucinda? -- Melinda Anderson ************************************************************* http://home.earthlink.net/~melindaroo/twigs.html Climbing these branches of my Family Tree: ANNAND, BADENOCH, BEAMER, BEAN, BRADLEY, COWAN, CRABS, CRAWFORD, CRUMP, DOOLIN, EMBURY, FUNK,GERRISH, HABBERCORN, HANCOCK, HARPER, HARRINGTON, HILL, HILLIKER, HOGARTY, KISER, MCLAUGHLIN, MOWATT , NUNNERY, PEASLEE, SCRIBNER, SHURTLEFF, SMALL, SPAFFORD, TOUGH, WOLFE …… *************************************************************

    1. [CRUMP] CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS Introduction and ALABAMA
    2. Constance M. Diamond
    3. Hello Everyone, During the next week I will be sending out a state by state list of Confederate Soldiers, "re-edited" by Ed Crump. Ed has so graciously sent the index to me for use with the list. I hope that you all appreciate Ed's work as much as I do, even though I have no Southern Crump connection. Thank you so much Ed for a job Well Done! This will be the introduction and the first State. I will keep the message to a reasonable length so there should be no problems with the digests. My Best To All Constance ================================================ Crump's involved in the War Between the States listed in "The Roster of Confederate Soldiers 1861-1865" This information was Edited by Janet B. Hewett and Published by Broadfoot Publishing Company, Wilmington, NC in 1996 in 16 Volumes. The entire list is in alphabetical order, but has been listed for our family purposes by State. The information included here was taken from pages 279-281 of Vol. IV. It is important to note that although there are over 350 names listed, there are many duplications. If a soldier was transferred from one unit to another, or promoted, he is likely to be listed more than once. There are several instances of one person being listed as many as three or four times. And sometimes in more than one state! Be sure to check out the last section. Although this list has been organized by state, a number of our ancestors were involved in Headquarters units, and no state was mentioned. That list follows Virginia. Since this is a CRUMP list, the surname has not been reproduced. The list includes the first and middle name (or initials), the Unit and rank if known. For the most part, I do not know any more than is reproduced here. Submitted by Ed Crump, Jr., Louisiana, December 1999. ALABAMA C., 10th Inf. Co. A C.T., Lt. Arty. Tarrants's Btty. E.A., 50th Inf.
