Diamond'" <[email protected]> I am going to England in December and am hopeful that I will get a chance to do a little research into the Crump ancestors over there. Does anyone know [beyond mere conjecture, that is] where Sgt. Crump came from in England? I know that Rev. Buck was from Wymondham in Norfolk, England, but have not seen anything on the Sargeant. Thanks for any help you can giv eme. Bobbie

    2. Constance M. Diamond
    3. Hi Everyone, I have had so much going on in my life for the last three months I haven't had much time for genealogy. Things have now slowed down to a small roar and all most normal once again. So I am back to researching again. I now have the LDS Vital records of North America CD set. I will search these for you for your family. Please be sure to give the full name as you know it. And PLEASE do not ask me to " send me all of the Crumps in Mississippi". It isn't going to happen. There is 34 Crump births and 628 marriages on these CD's. Constance

    2. Ed Crump Jr
    3. Sherry, Otis is not a common name like Wiliam, John, etc. like we usually see in this line. I have an Otis Crump whose father, Benjamin Franklin Crump, was born in Mississippi in 1847. Benjamin was the son of a William Crump b abt 1807 n NC, son of John Bushrod Crump, Jr. IF (big IF) this is the same Otis, then I can take his ancestory back to the late 1600's in Ireland, and, originally England! The only thing is, I show my Otis being born in 1900. His siblings were born between 1880 and 1906, so it is not impossible. I have no further info on Otis that what I say here, so do you know anything more? Benjamin Franklin Crump married in Catahoula Parish LA about 1870, and died in Jones County Texas sometime after 1900 (based solely on the presumed birthdate of Otis). Interesting that Otis had a brother Oscar. His parents liked the "O's" <G> I have more if this is a fit. I'd bet there is some relationship, however. Thanks for the message. 3. Hi Everyone, The following message came through this morning on another list that I am on in reply to a query I sent. I thought it would be of help to some of those members doing research in Ontario, Canada, so I am passing it on to you. ======================= Good Morning all! Just for historical correctness, there was no Ontario before 1867. Therefore, these people listed below were not born or did not marry in Ontario, but in Quebec if it was before 1791, or in Upper Canada if it was before 1841, or in Canada-West before 1867. Cheers, and have a nice, cool, and sunny Sunday in Ontario. John. =============================== Constance

    1. [CRUMP] IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ROOTSWEB, PLEASE READ!!
    2. Constance M. Diamond
    3. Hi Everyone, I have noticed via the list administrtors mail list that the Happy 99 virus is working it's way through the internet emails once again. This message is not a virus warning, this message is just to let you know how hard Rootsweb.com is working to keep our mail lists virus free. You will not get a virus via a rootsweb mail list. Having said that, I must also tell you that there were several lists that had slipped through the unnoticed and had not been protected. Our list was NOT one of those. Here is a message from Tim Pierce of Rootsweb. This message is to reasure you that your Rootsweb mail lists are safe. Just becareful of any attachments to any emails you receive from friend or foe. Tim's message: By saying that the filters for "your list and a few others" were out of date, I mean "as opposed to the other 17,000 lists that we host," which are all up-to-date. The code which strips out attachments and HTML was simply not installed on Richard's list. Attachment blocks have been in place since 1998, and we have had a rule that specifically eliminates Happy99 since early last year. Forwarded messages are not generally treated as attachments. If the forwarded message includes some kind of "non-text" attachment, e.g. a GIF or WAV file, it should be rejected. The basic rule for our attachment filters is that any message of one of these types: * "image" * "audio" * "video" * "application" * "text/html" * "text/enriched" ... is not permitted on a RootsWeb mailing list. This rule applies even for messages that are included as part of someone else's forwarded message. The goal is to keep out attachments that are anything but plain old boring text; if someone forwards a message that only consists of text, it should be accepted, and if they "attach" a file that just happens to be an ordinary text file, that should also be accepted. Anything fancier should get rejected. This ensures that large attachments which may require proprietary software to view are kept off the lists, and it also guarantees that viruses or trojan horses which require executable content cannot be sent to these lists. I do not know of any virus or worm which can be transmitted in a message without embedding it in one of these message types. -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb.com lead system admonsterator and Chief Hacking Officer

When a board is gatewayed to a mailing list, every message posted to the GenConnect board will be forwarded to the corresponding mailing list. The message sent to the list will contain the URL of the specific post to allow the list subscribers to respond directly to the message. In this manner, gatewaying will enable more effective communication between the mailing lists and the GC boards." 1. [CRUMP] SS DEATH INDEX
    2. Constance M. Diamond
    3. Hi Everyone, I received this information from another list I am on and thought it was worth while passing along to you. SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX (SSDI) UPDATE. The February 2000 update of the SSDI is now available to be searched at RootsWeb, making RootsWeb's SSDI database the most current available with a total of 63,305,772 records, significantly more than the total of 62,917,259 records in the January 2000 update. The reason for the nearly half-million records increase in just one month is that RootsWeb's Randy Winch noticed a glitch in the way the government handles the updates, figured out what to do to make it right, then completely rebuilt RootsWeb's database from the updates. In the process, nearly a half-million records that had been missed in the past were discovered and included in the current version of RootsWeb's SSDI database. Constance

    3. Hello Everyone, I thought I would let everyone know that Rootsweb is doing "scheduled maintenance" (Sun, 5 March 2000) and rebuilding the indexes on the Global Search Engine. In order to do this, they will need to take GenConnect off-line for several hours, which may carry into the day on Monday. If you are trying to use any of their resources and are unable to access them, this is the reason. Once back online, there shouldn't be any performance issues, but if you notice any problems or have any difficulties accessing Rootsweb, Please let me know. Everything should be back to normal at Roots web by this evening at the latest, if not sooner. Constance
