I grew up in Central MO. but have waited till all my Dad's family passed on to get interested in genealogy. Now that there is no one left to ask, I have all the questions. I am the last of the "Grays" in the Boone-Callaway Co area, but there are still plenty of Crumps left around here. Dad's mother was Ada Crump, daughter of Elijah Crump, son of John Crump, son of Joseph John Crump, son of John Crump...&, it goes on & on. I haven't seen anyone else researching my particular line; even with all these local Crumps, most of them are not direct relations. My g-grandfather, Elijah, and his wife, Mary Jane Jones, were both born in Callaway Co.MO, but prior to that, all our Crumps were from Kent Co, Delaware, & Madison Co, Kentucky. I have about 7 generations back on this line & have quite a few validating obituaries, facts, etc. I'd be happy to share what I have with anyone & would appreciate any information on two women--Euphrates and Rosetta Crump. Their parents were also Elijah & Mary Jane but there is only one mention of them anywhere. That is on a census report which also left out two of my grandmother's sister's names--Onie & Allie Crump. I have actually known these women & have news clippings concerning both but have no idea where Euphrates & Rosetta came from. Hi Alandra, Unfortunately there were no parents listed on my Thomas Crump's death certificate. From what I can gather he bought land around Melbourne, Victoria and developed it. He was brickmaker, he would buy vacant newly released land from bigland owners that was going to become town lots, make the bricks on site, build the house and then sell it consequently he moved around a lot. He did however manage to have 6 children with his second wife Selina Wheeler while all this was going on. Interestingly enough she was from Goucestershire like your Crumps, however from Stroud. Perhaps there was a connection between the Crumps and Wheelers back in Gloucestershire. One can only speculate... Hi Bernie, Do you know the name of the Crump who came out to Australia? I am descended from a Thomas Crump who came out to Australia from England. I know very little about him he appears to have been born around 1815 possibly in Kent. He came out to Autralia in 1840 and married a Selina Wheeler 10 years after arriving but according to his death certificate he was married before he came out to Australia, or at least before he married Selina Wheeler, but no details were known. I haven't been able to find any clues about Thomas which is very frustrating. Hi Sandra, thanks for the feedback. Who knows, as you wrote, maybe there is a connection somewhere down the line : ) One of my DANIEL(L)S ancestors (my maiden name) supposedly went to Australia also, but that's another mystery. A boy and girl twin were abandoned at the Sidford Church, Devon, England, -- my dad and his dad searched the parish registers, but the only boy/girl twins noted there, were by the surname DARE, so my Dad always wondered if our name had originally been DARE. Just before my dad died, I found the DARE connection! My great great grandmother was a Sarah DARE, - she was the one who married Henry Hook DANIEL(L)S, the one who "vanished" - have never found a death or burial for him. He was in Somerset and Devon in 1854 when his son was born, his name is noted on the Chillington, Somerset, Parish Baptism Register for his son (my great grandfather) - but by the 1860 Census he wasn't listed. So he's the one that we believe went to Australia. I did tell my Dad about finding Sarah DARE, but not sure if he was able to understand at that stage of his illness. There have been several sets of boy/girl twins in our DANIELLS ancestors, including my own brother and sister : ) My Mary nee CRUMP/ENGLAND (great great grandmother) had a set of boy/girl twins, - the boy died at a young age, along with 2 other siblings in that same month in GLS. (must've been a disease circulating at the time). Strange how the girl of the twin survived tho, isn't it, as well as other children who survived. How sad/tragic to lose 3 children within a few days of each other! Then Mary's daughter, my great grandmother, Clara nee ENGLAND/DANIELLS had a boy/girl twin, but the girl died aged approx 1 year old. The boy of the twin was my paternal grandfather. I don't know how the little girl died, but she was buried in Gloucestershire, altho they lived at Devon. So many mysteries. Sure would love to solve some of them : ) best wishes, Alandra ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra Williamson" <smwilliamson@optushome.com.au> To: <crump@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 19, 2007 1:22 AM Subject: Re: [CRUMP] Sandra re Thomas CRUMP Emily CRUMP in AUSTRALIA > Hi Alandra, > > Unfortunately there were no parents listed on my Thomas Crump's death > certificate. Hi Bernie, we're neighbours, - I didn't realize you're at Richmond, BC, we're in South Delta : ) Can't recall if we've been in touch before or not. Hi also, Bob, -- I'm also researching CRUMP, - my great great grandmother was Mary CRUMP, born abt 1835, Berkeley, in Gloucestershire, UK. Burial 19 February 1907, Henbury, GLS, England. Mary Crump married George ENGLAND 24 Oct 1856, Almondsbury, GLS, England. Someone suggested that the name CRUMP, might have been mistaken for the name CROOME (or other similar spellings), due to the accents of the people from that region, when the Census people took the info from them. I haven't been able to trace my CRUMP people back very far. They don't seem to have been in Gloucestershire for very long, and I don't know which other region of UK to search for them. thanks for any suggestions.
