Author: Melindaroo Surnames: Crump Hogarty Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/664/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for information about any Crumps in the area of Negrofoot, Hanover Co. VA. in the late 1700s, early 1800s. There is a listing for Punkret (as listed in index) or Pomfrey ( or some such spelling) Crump in the 1799 Census of Hanover Co. VA (the only Crump I could find listed there). My ancestor, Lucy D. Crump was born probably 3 Jan 1799 in Negrofoot, Hanover Co., VA (death record information). She married John Hogarty in 1822 in Richmond, VA, had children born in Ohio and moved to Davenport, Scott Co., IA before 1850. She died in 1882. Another Crump I have been able to tie to the area is Francis Jefferson Crump prob born in Negrofoot (according to the IGI) in 1801. He later moved to Columbus, Bartholomew IN, where he became a leading citizen. I have no information that ties Francis to Lucy other than birthplace. I believe this area may have been Louisa Co. at one time. Does anyone know anything about any Hanover or Louisa County VA Crumps? I have an Esther Crump,(b1815) who married John Hughes(b1811) (a tailor) in Bromsgrove. Esther was my great great great grandmother and I believe Jewish. A number of their children were also tailors/seamstresses. Appreciate they are not from the same area as your family, but wondered if there was a connection Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. No connections, but I did notice some similarity in men's names...I also have a Harrison, a couple of Thomas' & Roberts, a Zachariah and, of course, a few Johns. Several of the men in George's & Edward's group pictures seem to have pretty much the same facial structure as some of mine. I'd be pretty surprised if there was NOT some connection a few years back. All my Crumps seem to have moved North from the VA, KY, & DE areas. Before that, it seems to be mostly Irish & English. I'd be glad to share any information I may have...just email me at chachipup@yahoo.com Jacki Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [CRUMP] Who was Thomas Crump's first wife?
    2. Sandra Williamson
    3. Thomas Crump is my brickwall. Thomas was born circia 1815, in Kent England. His first marriage, "partiuclars of first marriage unknown" according to his Australian death certificate,. was pre-1850 as this is when he married his second wife on the 30 Dec 1850 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Selina Wheeler, who was 19 years his junior. Thomas lived in Victoria, Australia for 32 years before he died. It is thought that he may have migrated to Australia on Marquis of Hastings a private ship arriving on the 11 Oct 1841 in Botany Bay, this has yet to be verified. I have not been able to find any record of his first marriage in Australia. He may have been married in England before he came out to Australia. Presumably his first wife died or was deserted when he came out, as it is believed he travelled alone. Thomas was a brickmaker, he lived and worked in and around Melbourne. I would like to locate Thomas Crump's first wife and children (if there were any), and also details on his christening and his family family of origin. Let me know if there is a connection, I have found the Crump line a very difficult nut to crack. Sandra
