But I found a Eter Crump born in 1886 in the 1900 Census I am thinking that this is your moms Grandma. Eters parents where Jonas S Crump born 1862 & and Harriet born 1857. I couldn't find a Jonas in the 1870 but I found a John Crump born in 1861 that I think is the same person. And John would be son of Jacob Crump son of Daniel Crump Sr son of Conrad Crump. Hope this helps. Let me know Michael Sronce Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kb5cx Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/413.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Tom, your email address changed triggered your original message of 1999. I wasn't as far along in my research then as I am now and either overlooked it or didn't know enough to answer. I took a look at my database and found a William Crump in Chatham County in 1860 who was apparently a widower by then. The census shows land value at $16,000 and "Property" of $44,000. By 1870 the land was valued at $1,600 and Property at $3,000 and he was living with William and Mary Poe. His was the only Crump family in Chatham, and several of his children are listed, but he was the wealthiest. I know some of his own ancestry, but that wouldn't help you. That property had to have included quite a number of slaves to be farming that much land and to have it decreased so much by 1870. When I began looking at the North Carolina Crumps quite a few years ago I was more interested in the period prior to 1850, so did not include the African American Crumps in my database. A quick check on Ancestry.com's 1870 Census for Chatham county shows 28 Black males, 15 of whom were born by 1850. You might want to check those guys out. Since slavery was gone by 1870, William's will would not be of any help. All things considered, your ancestor almost certainly was on this plantation at Cape Fear, NC. That's about all I can offer, and I understand the challenge. If you are successful, I would be interested in knowing what helped you the most as I get a lot of inquiries. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dust878 Surnames: Crump Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/667/mb.ashx Message Board Post: James Lewis "Jim" "Pop" Crump, 65, of Champion Lane, Lenoir, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at his residence, surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 19, 1942 in Caldwell County to the late Hunter and Edith Craig Crump. Mr. Crump graduated from Gamewell High School in 1961 and eventually chose to spend his career in the convenience store industry. He earned numerous certifications through trainings by the national and state industry organizations. He was president, partner, and CEO of BCW Properties, Inc., operating nine convenience stores in three counties under the names Holiday to Go and Tobacco to Go. In addition, he was co-owner of Royal Enterprise, operating nine additional stores in Conover, Salisbury and Statesville. He was also a partner in Foothills Partners, LLC. Jim was active in the N.C. Association of Convenience Stories (NCACS) for more than two decades, holding all offices on the Board of Directors through the years, including NCACS President in 2000. In 2001, Jim was awarded the Locke Retailer of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding service on behalf of the convenience store industry. In 2003, he was awarded the Business Associate of the Year Award from the Caldwell Chapter of ABWA, and in 2005, the Small Business of the Year Award from the Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce. Jim also served on the Board of Directors and on various committees for Cedar Rock Country Club. Both civic and philanthropically minded, Jim organized and contributed to community programs to improve the lives of others. At the national level, he sponsored various fund-raising efforts for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, including a local golf tournament for the past 16 years, contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars for the association's work through the years, for which he received a special award of thanks from Jerry Lewis in February 2008. He sponsored the "Fill the Boot" campaign for the local National Guard Family Readiness Group and was founder and continuing supporter of the local "Koats for Kids" program to collect and distribute coats to needy school-age children. In addition, Jim sponsored various programs for the Lenoir Police Department and Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, including the "Toys for Tots" program. He provided match monies to college scholarships awarded by the NCACS and annually supported the CCC&TI Education Foundation and Project G! raduation. An avid follower and supporter of local athletics, Jim contributed specifically to American Legion Post 29 Baseball, Hibriten High School and Happy Valley Optimist programs. Jim was particularly proud of his membership in United Presbyterian Church of Lenoir, where he served as an elder for the past 32 years. He served on various church committees through the years and as chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Mrs. Linda Earp Crump of the home; one son, Richard Lewis Crump of Lenoir; two grandsons, Dustin Crump of Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs and Dylan Crump, Hibriten High, Lenoir; one brother, Hunter "Pedro" Crump and sister-in-law Polly Gurley Crump of Lenoir; brother-in-law, Steve Earp and sister-in-law, Suzanne Phillips Earp of Lenoir; six nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. George "Woody" Alexander, with Pastor Fred Barnes and Rev. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Bolick, Joel Carroll, Steve Earp, Graham Gilley, Vicki McClurg and Ron Stilwell. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Josephine Beall, Cathy Brown and J.B. Myers, Sandy Cashion, Bill and Imogene Cliffard, Jerrell and Bettye Gilreath, Gary and Vivian Knight, and Coach Henthorne and the Hibriten High School 2008 Varsity Baseball team. Believing all his life that, for himself personally, "just one rose will do," and following Jim's tradition of giving to others, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to one of the following: Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645; American Legion Post 29 Baseball, 1015 Cambridge Ct., Lenoir, NC 28645; Hibriten High School Athletic Boosters, 1350 Panther Trail SE, Lenoir, NC 28645; or United Presbyterian Church, 415 Powell St., Lenoir, NC 28645. Author: wilding143 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/663.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Lee, Thanks for your reply, as Phil has already told you it's me who's looking for the Roberts and Crump connection. My paternal gt.grandmother was Jane Roberts born Denbighshire about 1870/71. She married Edward Knight and lived in Kirkdale, Liverpool. Their daughter Ada (my grandmother)born 1902 Kirkdale, married Thomas Fearon in Liverpool in 1923. Thomas worked for the Liverpool Evening Express and Echo and they moved to Chester, firstly living over the Express office in City Road and then moving out to a bungalow in Huntington near Chester. My Dad (Tom) remembers John Crump arriving at the bungalow in a lovely old Rover car, this would be sometime in the 1940's. And my Auntie Ada remembers visiting the garage in Gresford with her mum (Ada) and grandmother (Jane Knight). So both think there is a family connection with the Crump family and thought it was possibly as cousins to my grandmother Ada Fearon (nee Knight). I have looked at the censuses for Elizabeth Roberts and see that she has an elder sister Jane, although this would make her a couple of years older than I thought. I also see that there is a younger sister Alice. Another aunt seems to remember that gran Knight may have had another name which could possibly have been Alice or Agnes. Was Alice Roberts perhaps Alice Jane Roberts or was Jane - Jane Alice or Agnes Roberts? I also understand that the Roberts family was not very happy with Jane marrying an Irish Catholic and that this caused a rift in the family. Does any of this fit with your information on the Roberts family? If it does it would also be such a coincidence that there is also a Wilding connection! Look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes Jan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I will forward you the e-mail that includes this reference- it is the only breakthrough I have had on this family at all. So, no, I still don't know the name of Lucy's parents. The 1799 or 1800 tax list for Hanover County only lists one Crump that I could find. The name is difficult to read- looks like Pumpkret! I'm thinking Pomfret? The only Crump in Henrico Co. in 1820 with a daughter Lucy's age was Fortune P. Crump. The P is interesting- could it be the Pumpkret person- I don't know! I have found almost nothing about Fortune P. Crump- except that he was the parent of Crutchfield. Have you done any research in the Virginia records??? Lucy was my husband's great-great-great grandmother, which, I think, would make you third cousins, once removed. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
