I think Ed is right. I have the text of Robert's will and he did not mention a son John. His sons were Christian, Robert, Josiah, Anderson, Richard and Thomas. My ancestor was Josias Crump of Northampton Co., NC, son of Joseph and brother of Robert. Robert's will was dated 1801, but apparently not finally probated until 1805. At that time it was contested by "some of the relatives of the said Crump, James(?) Garnett and others, but the court decided that the will was valid. Hope this helps. Personally, I do NOT believe that Robert Crump who married Mary Parr was descended from the New Kent County, VA, Crumps. In fact, I'm sure of it. Secondly, I do NOT believe that William Crump who was father to Stephen in the second or so generation was a son of Thomas Crump. We don't know who this William's parents were, but certainly not Thomas and Elizabeth Buck(e). Over the past 70+ years many authors including Harllee in the 1930's thought a single William of the 1640's was son of Sgt. Thomas. We now know that there were two contemporary William Crumps and now most of us do not believe that either was son of Sgt. Thomas.. Lots of documenation to refute it, but NONE to support it. Again, just my opinion, but a number of us researchers have been working on this for the past 15 years or so. DNA testing has definitely seperated these two Williams. Thanks for your post and let me know if I can be of more assistance. I agree with Ed. And from what I have seen, Robert was married to (1) Alice Walker, and (2) Elizabeth Anderson. Doesn't mean that there wasn't one as my Wm. Heldley connection a little later suggests. I am directly descended from James, son of John Bushrod Crump. One of the early problem with this line is that almost every John had a son James, and almost every James had a son John. Took me years to get all of this straight. But the daughters are a little different. During this period they didn't show up in the census information, but from everything I have researched/seen over these last fifteen years or so, I just can't find an Elizabeth that fits. I hav not researched the Hendley's at all so I cannot comment too much on that. Let me know if you find anything that suggests a close relationship. I was following a long shot based on the 1850 Census of Stanly Co. showing my Hendleys living between the Crump Bros as well as a tree posted on Roots Web (The Truss/Ingram Family Tree) that had Elizabeth Crump b. 1803 & daughter of James Crump as my gal married to Wm Hendley. I recently was at the NC Archives here in Raleigh and had a chance to go over the estate settlement papers of James and Stephen Crump, sons of Bushrod I. They had rather extensive holdings. My Hendleys (William & sons)) were mentioned several times, so had some dealings with the Crumps. They bought some things at the estate auctions and had loans from Stephen to settled up. No bequests though. Dave Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Elizabeth, daughter of James Crump and Elizabeth Easley was born Apr 16, 1814. The only William Hendley I have in my family database married Charlotte Helen Crump. She was born in 1857, but I do not have any dates for him. You also mention that "the elder Stephen and James are sons of John Bushrod Crump, II". John Bushrod Crump, II didn't have a son names Stephen. Stephen was son of John Bushrod Crump, Sr. Unfortunately, I don't have an Elizabeth Crump born in this family within ten years either way of 1803. James b 1780 was son of John Bushrod Crump Sr. Stephen was also born to him. Daniel was son of James Crump and Betsy Easley. Stephen b 1823 was son of Stephen Crump and Nancy Easley. Yes, all of these are closely related. I believe James Sr is buried on the western side of the Uwharrie National Forest on the east side of the PeeDee River. It's a small grave yard, but I don't think there was an Elizabeth buried there. I think just John Bushrod, Sallie, James and one or two more. The 37-marker test, one of the test, we use for our DNA project, is being offered for only $119. This is a discount of $30 off the current group rate. If you have not been tested or have been thinking about it, this would be a great time to jump on board. This would be a great Christmas gift for the genealogist in the family!!
