    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: morganaam Surnames: Crump Clenny Map Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/690/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The following Crumps were in the Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee area in the years between about 1810 and 1850 according to census, deed, marriage, and other records. Adam, according to the heirs mentioned in a Notice of Sale (estate) is probably the son of John Bushrod Crump of VA and Montgomery County, NC. W.H. Crump, according to a notice of his death, was born in Fairfax County, VA. Census records generally list the place of birth of the people as VA or NC. A couple of cases list MD. Any help in placing these people in one place or another would be helpful in trying to sort them out. Clenny and May are closely related families. 3. Sherri, A Crump on Every Stump has errors. For one thing, Joseph's son Charles of Northampton Co., NC died there in 1763. The book also makes claims that I cannot find any documentary evidence for. However, it is still very valuable. Ed is more familiar with Pittsylvania Crumps than I am. There was a Robert Crump there very early, but the DNA tests (on descendants) does not match the New Kent group if I understand correctly. I had some info sent to me when I first started my Crump line. It is apparently incorrect, I do know from my Grand parents back to 1770 . John Daniel Crump of Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was married to Sarah Cornelious if my info is correct. Do you know anything about this line of Crumps? I just got a photographed copy of a Crump on Every Stump to go through. Hopefully it will be enlightening. If you have any info on this group I would appreciate it. The Dallas Library is very large and has a great genealogy department. I have done alot of research there. If there are records you know of maybe we have them too. I have seen Adventures of Purse and Persons and Cavaliers and Pioneers If you know of something else please let me know. 3. Thank you for your info. 3. Allen, my Adam had two sons by his first wife who apparently died between the time my Adam wrote his will in 1748 and the time it was finally probabet in 1853. His two sons and one daughter by his second wife all moved to Montgomery Co., NC in the 1770's. Most of them died there, but John Bushrod, Jr. moved to Mississippi and died there. No evidence of any of them evere being in Tennessee. 3. The will has Christian (typescript) and the land tax lists have Christian, Christopher, and Chr ! The name hints at a possible relationship with the Christian family of NK, but I have not found any proof. I guess we get to pick! Likewise, Josiah is also called Josias, Jesse and even Jonas in Northampton. At least, I have always thought that the appearance of a Jonas Crump and a Jesse Crump did not represent two other men especially in the context. Spelling in those days was pretty flexible! I just use whatever spelling appears when I am abstracting documents. To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com, crump@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 6:11 PM I think Ed is right. I have the text of Robert's will and he did not mention a son John. His sons were Christian, Robert, Josiah, Anderson, Richard and Thomas. My ancestor was Josias Crump of Northampton Co., NC, son of Joseph and brother of Robert. Robert's will was dated 1801, but apparently not finally probated until 1805. At that time it was contested by "some of the relatives of the said Crump, James(?) Garnett and others, but the court decided that the will was valid. Hope this helps.
