Here is what he said, "Thomas and Elizabeth (Buck) Crump are presumed to have had sons John (c 22C 22201) and William (C22 C22)". The book does not claim that there is any proof that Thomas was the father of William Crump. It just assumes that it is so. John apparently had a daughter Elizabeth, but she died without known heirs and there were no other children. William Crump did not have any association that we know of with Thomas Crump or John Crump. Without some evidence of a connection between Thomas Crump and William Crump of York, the origin of Elizabeth Buck may not help much. Who were John Crumps children? How does Elizabeth Bucke suddenley show up out of nowhere, and marry Thomas Crump? Elizabeth Bucke may have been a cousin of Richard Bucke. Peleg, Gershon, Mara, and Benoni? Peleg is a name from the Old Testment Bilbe a first born son. Gershon another old testament name eldest son of Levi. Benoni Benoni may refer to: In biblical names: Benoni or Ben Oni, meaning son of my sorrow, or pain, original name of Benjamin In Jewish philosophy: Benoni, the 'intermediate one'; see Tanya Also an opening chess move defensive set up. Mara Naomi (Bible), self-named Mara, meaning "bitterness", after she suffered the deaths of her husband and her two sons. Are there passenger lists for the ships Richard Bucke came over on? How many survived the hurricane? Any deaths? Maybe other Bucke family members were on the ship. I will have to locate it if possible. Any ideas where I can find it? Some say wife Langley was on the ship along with four children. The Virginia quarterly article is great, but I don't think it is definitive. It is a great study though about what happened to the land, but the manifests of the ships if they survive should be examined to find out what relatives of Bucke came over with him. I guess those would be in England if they existed. I will have to do some more research. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: BonnieGF Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/722.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: William Crump of York Co. was born in 1632 (presumably in England)according to his deposition given in 1659 in York Co., Va. He was a headright of Lewis Burrell in 1648 and was married to an Anne (surname unknown) in 1651. He was a relative of Elizabeth Vaulx, wife of Robert Vaulx and apparently employed by them. In 1665 he patented land in New Kent County with Edmonds and Whitehaire. In 1771, Edmonds appointed Mr. William Crump his attorney to appear for him in York Court. In 1681, he patented land in New Kent near Stephen Crump's fence. >From my communication with Mr Gann, I know he was very well aware of this William Crump and did not consider him a son of Thomas Crump. There is nothing in the surviving documents that connects this William Crump to Thomas Crump! Any stated relationship seems to be speculative. William of York was the founder of the New Kent Crumps. The following quoted information is from notes furnished by Dr. Robert Armistead Stewart, Editor of The Researcher, Richmond, Va, and author of index to Virginia genealogies. The Virginia quarterley article is good, but the author was not even aware that William Crump was said also to be a son or he would have discussed it in the story. It is possible that William Crump died around the same time as his brother John. The Virginia quarterly article also does not explain well how Elizabeth Bucke suddenley shows up on the scene and marries Thomas Crump out of the blue. Also they never give the name of the first wife who bears his daughter Elizabeth. So it is possible that Elizabeth also was born in Virginia. The only thing the quarterly writer says is that there is no record of her being there in early Virginia. Apparentley there is some record of them being married at Jamestown? Since Richard was born in 1743 he would be the son of Richard Crump and his first wife Lucy Hunt who died in 1753. In colonial times one would not distinguish between a half brother and full brother, especially if they shared a surname. I have Judah in my records as the sister of Abner and Goodrich based on St Peter's Parish register and had always thought that Goodrich was the son of Mary. I do not see anything that points to Richard being the son of Mary. Richard is my line there is a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to a relationship with the Hunt family. His first land purchase was from Hutchins Burton who was his uncle through the Hunt Line. Susan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: BonnieGF Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/720.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Three Powhatan Crumps were brothers. Abner's will mentioned his deceased brother Goodrich. Goodrich made Richard Crump, his brother, one of his executors. This is stated in Powhatan Chancery Case Index #1802-016 on the LVA site. Richard was born 1843 and Abner was born 1756. S. B. French in his biographical note also on the LVA site says Goodrich was the oldest. I am inclined to think that Richard was, but don't know for sure. With his Rev. War record, Goodrich probably was born in the 1740s or early 1750s. There were sisters or at least one. The Chancery Case (John Richardson & Wife vs. Admr Goodrich Crump) states that Ursula Crump sister of Goodrich married Julius Martin. The NK Parish register shows Julius and Ursula Martin having a daughter Sarah on Aug. 17, 1770. This indicates that Ursula was probably born in the early 1750s. The daughter Sarah married John Richardson at an unknown time. Goodrich Crump apparently promised Sarah Martin a slave because Julius Martin had boarded the mother of Goodrich "for a considerable time" and also a sister named Sarah. The suit was filed in order to get Richard to fulfill his brother's promise. Because of all of this, I think the parents of all these children (and possibly Judah Crump) were Richard and Mary. Mary apparently outlived her husband and was taken care of by Julius Martin. The death of Richard the father is not recorded in the parish register. It is quite possible that Richard and Mary were a very separate couple from Richard and Lucy Hunt. Lucy died in 1753 so how could Julius Martin board her at his house. Hope this helps. Chancery Case is available online. Bonnie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Lucy supposedly died in September, 1753, I surmise either in childbirth of son John or shortly thereafter. The information I have came from "A Crump on Every Stump", but it gives Mary as Richard's mother, and I don't think that's right. About Goodrich I don't know, but thinking of his marriage date, Jan 1779, how old would he have been at that time? If he was younger than 26 when he married, then his mother may have been Lucy also. According to the "Stump" record, there was a big gap between Lucy's sons Benedict (1739) and John (1753) - certainly both Richard and Goodrich and even some more children, would fit in there. Author: S_Chiarello Surnames: Crump & Hunt Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/720/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have seen several postings about the parents of this man. Richard Crump of Powhatan was born about 1743 since he was 70 when he died according to his obit. If that is true then his mother's name mostly likely was Lucy. This is based on the analysis of the Register of St Peter's Parish in New Kent. If Richard b.1711 and his first wife Lucy had a son John b. Sep 1753 and Richard b 1743 was the son of Richard b 1711 then it follows that Lucy is Richard's mother not Mary the second wife of Richard b 1711. Further according to my research Lucy was the daughter of Turner Hunt. There was an article published some years ago about the Hunt family of colonial VA and in that article it states that there was a chancery suit where Richard Crump and his wife Lucy sued her father's estate. I am not sure where Goodrich falls in that family. I have has some correspondence in recent years that states that he most likely was an full brother of Richard and a half brother of Abner who was the Clerk of the Court of Powhatan. I know after the Rev Goodrich ran a tavern at Genito Crossing. Richard b1743 served as executor of his estate. If anyone has seen a post that would prove that Goodrich was the oldest son of Richard b 1711 I would love to see that. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Quite a few years ago I corresponded with one of your cousins and he sent me some information about his ancestor's participation in placing a headstone on the grave of Rebecca Bryan in Missouri and I'll try to find my notes. I think this was about the time that Rebecca and Daniel Boone were reburied in Kentucky. As I remember I found a speech that Richard (?) Crump sent to my Grandmother which he delivered at the event. My grandmother's grandfather was Upton Hays, a cousin of Lavina Scholl who's mother, Lydia Scholl was a cousin. Have you read the Watts Hays Letters (www.wattshaysletters.com)? Richard and Eliza Hornbuckle Crump are mentioned often in the 1850's letters. Eliza was trying to locate her brother, Alfred Hornbuckle who went on the 1849 Gold Rush to California. There is a People Index so you can find in which letters the Crumps and Hornbuckles are mentioned. 3. Can't be proved as of yet. But my best guess can be found at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/. When you get there jump directly to Specific Database and type in "edcrump4" without the quotation marks. It will ask for a specific name so put in Parr, Mary. From there you can navigate up or down. One caveat is that the first Robert may be son of William Crump, son of William Crump and Frances Mountney, and Not William and Frances' son. We believe it likely that William whose parents were William and Frances predeceased his fathe. Otherwise I believe it to be pretty accurate.  I didn't post this until recently because it is not absolutely proved, but logical as to time and place. Ed Crump in Louisiana. > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: arabianvoice3 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/88.254.1.2/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Does anyone know who the parents of Robert G. are? > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know there are errors in the book "A Crump on Every Stump", but it does help in some instances. It says Richard who married Mary was the son of Richard (#4 in the book) and wife Frances. The book only gives one Goodrich, the son of Richard and Mary, and says he married Judith Howlett 15 Jan 1779 in Chesterfield Co., VA. Lucy evidently died in September, 1753 (must have died in childbirth with John born 25 Sep 1753), and Richard and Mary's first child Abner was born 5 July 1756. I can't read my own descendency charts! Thanks! I actually have her as a daughter of Richard and Frances. Richard and Mary had more children than those listed. There is a Chancery Case in Cumberland that mentions a sister Ursula and possibly a sister Sarah. Ursula married Julius Martin in NK and they had one daughter, Sarah. This Sarah married John Richardson. I am reasonably sure that the Richard of Powhatan Co born 1743 was a son of Richard (m. Mary) probably born about 1715. This Richard (m. Mary) might have been son of Stephen and Ann of NK. This is the line of Goodrich Crump. And Richard of Powhatan had a brother Goodrich (m. Judith Howlett) and a brother Abner. Also, S. B. French on the LVA site states that Goodrich was the eldest son of Richard. So if he was brother of Richard (which I don't doubt), Goodrich was born before 1743. Anyway, after Lucy died, it does not seem likely that the widower married a Mary very quickly after Lucy's death. This is like doing a jigsaw puzzle with 1/2 the pieces missing.
