Looking for anyone who might recognize this name. I'm looking for a Clella (F) Crump who was most likely born in Illinois in about 1885. I do see a possible parent of Nathan Crump also in Illinois at the time. Multiple siblings too. The last thing I can find really is she is in the 1900 census but can't tell from the census why no other family is listed Clella married Walter Roth. Clella lived in and died in WA State, in the Spokane area and is buried there. She died in 1931 Thanks, Suzanne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. And I completely agree with your last statement. I respect the work of the early researchers, but they did not have realistic access to all the records we can now examine. A good approach is to re-examine the old books and articles and test them against the records now available. Then we can confirm or adjust our ancestral lines. Author: SandraStephens50 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crump/722.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A few years ago, several of us Crump researchers pooled our money and hired a researcher to see if anything on William Crump of York and New Kent counties could be found. As far as I know, nothing definitive in England was found about him. Following is a note from Ed Crump, Jr., a well-respected Crump researcher. "Over the past twenty years or so it has been assumed that William Crump of Lancaster County, Virginia, and later Cecil County, Maryland was married to Mary Spillman, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Boyle Spillman Hill Mountney. This theory was first proposed by long- time Crump researcher Wayne Guthrie (now deceased). He arrived at this conclusion because William Crump was named son-in-law to Hannah Mountney at some point. Hannah had a daughter by Hill (Elizabeth) and one by Spillman (Mary). No one knew of a child by Mountney, and taking everything into consideration, Guthrie suggested that Mary must have been William's wife. This was also before anyone realized that there was another William Crump in York County, VA, which later became New Kent County. That William was married to an Ann, so it was very confusing. When the York information became available Guthrie dropped William of Lancaster as a probable descendant of Sgt. Thomas Crump of Jamestown. The 3rd Revised edition of "Adventurers of Purse and Person" identifies the daughter of Alexander and Hannah Mountney as "Frances". It is known that when William of Lancaster Co. moved to Maryland in 1665 that his wife was "Frances". Most long-time Crump researchers now agree that William Crump of Lancaster was, in fact, married to Frances Mountney and was never married to Mary Spillman, and that there were definitely two William Crumps who were contemporary with each other. This is one of those cases where a theory by a knowledgable person got picked up as fact over the years and should now be corrected." I don't know if I can find any census records that show their family right after they were married. At this point their are so many viewpoints on the subject; I am going to look some more. The Virginia Geneaology magazine article is very good but not definitive. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Several very reliable sources say the his daughter Elizabeth, Bridget and his wife came over with him. Other sources say Bridget was a wife and stepmother to Mara based on the supposedley mean comment that know real mother would make that Mara was rather slow at reading the bible. On the other hand Bridget protected Mara from being married off for the sake of her land, and went to court to get an order that this not be allowed which the court approved. Whether this was out of love or a wish to take her lands when she passed can be debated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. One explanation I can think of as to the name Katherine being put on the death certificate is that whoever gave the information just thought her name was Katherine. This happens when many years have passed, and no one is really sure about names. The only other thing would be if Louisa died and Thomas married again to someone named Katherine and whoever gave the death certificate info just thought Katherine was the mother's name. I think it was just an error. There is too much info to prove that Amanda's mother was Louisa - the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records all have her name as Louisa, although in 1860 it is misspelled "Lucy".
