You may need to look for her birth records, Roxanna. My mother's namd is Mary Elizabeth but all documents omit the Mary because she was never called that. There seems to be a tradition here in the South to call our kids by their middle name. Jerry
Jerry, Clerrah Mae was the fourth daughter and sixth child of Sidney Smith and Julia (Westmoreland) Crumley. Sidney Smith was the grandson of William Smith and Elizabeth Jones Monroe Crumley. Clerrah Mae was born about 1876 in La Veta, Heurfano Co., Colorado while her parents lived there for seven years before returning to N/E Georgia in 1877. She went by ANNIE MAE, but her proper name was CLERRAH MAE. Annie married a John Church Canup and raised six children. Originally the CANUPS came to Georgia from Canada as they were of FRENCH descent. She is buried with her husband in Chattacoochee Methodist Church Cemetery in White Co., Ga.. The church still in operating today. The movie " I have climbed the Highest Mountain" is based on this church and the Methodist Minister at this period of time. It was made in 1949 starring Rory Calhoun, Susan Hayward, and others.
