    3. The following is the complete info on Chapple Columbus Crumley that comes from the book (which is no longer in publication) "Driftwood Heritage, A History of Driftwood Texas" by Minnie Lea Rogers. It was published by the Driftwood Ladies-Aid and edited by Minnie Lea Rogers and printed in 1970 by Capital Printing Co., Austin, TX. There was a second printing in 1976. pg 63 CHAPPLE C. CRUMLEY FAMILY Mr. Chapple C. Crumley bought a place on Onion Creek north-east of the present Driftwood Center in the year of 1882. He bought this land from the Reverend John Garison and this was the place on which Reverend Garison and his family lived when they first came to this area. Mrs. Crumley (Mary Selina) was a sister to Mr. John N. Whisenant and the Crumley's and Whisenants had made the trip to Texas in the same wagon train coming from Georgia. They were in the group, also, that had gone to Colorado and had made the return trip to Texas (see Whisenant Story). they finally wound up in the Driftwood area where they spent the rest of their lives. When they moved here they had four children and six more were born to them. The childrens names were: Richard Tom, Lizzie S., William M., John C., Lillie E., Smithie C., Mary Annie, Herbert F., Albert R. and Jessie Maudie. all these children went to the Driftwood school, part of them went to it when it was taught in the old Reaves schoolhouse and the others went when it had been moved to the present Driftwood Center. Mr. and Mrs. Crumley were religious people of the Baptist faith and when a Baptist Church was built near their home in 1898 we find that Mr. Crumley's name headed the list of persons contributing money and labor toward the building of it. He was Church Clerk of this church for many years and the nimutes that he kept have proven to be invaluable aids in our writing of the history of the Driftwood Baptist Church. The visiting preachers often stayed in his home when preaching in this building and his good wife prepared special dishes for them -- according to Maude, who said the children were always glad to see the preachers for this reason. Jessie Maude, the youngest of the Crumley children, is the only one of the children living (1969). She married Elwain Mading and they live in Dripping Springs, Texas. Their daughter Verna Louise is married to Anton Peterson and they live in Austin, Texas. "Miss Maude," as she is affectionately called by her many friends, is carrying on in the tradition of her parents as a faithful worker in the Baptist Church. She has been a teacher in the Beginners Department of the Dripping Springs Baptist Sunday School for many years and has seen many of her early pupils grow up to be fine men and women. The other children married -- some to local people and others to people in adjoining communities. The oldest daughter, Lizzie S., married Mr. John Langston and her son, Jesse and a daughter Mrs., Ila Mae Horner live in Dripping Springs, Texas. Mr. Will Crumley married Miss Roxie Langston and several of their descendents live near Driftwood today. The nearest is a granddaughter Mrs. Vaughn Bell (the former Birdie Mae McIntyre). She and Vaughn live about a half mile form the Driftwood postoffice. Her mother is Mrs. Fannie McIntyre, daughter of the Will Crumleys. Her sister, Mrs. Pearl Ruston and her brother Bobbie L McIntyre live on the Driftwood Rural Route northeast of Driftwood. When Mr. Chappal C. Crumley died in 1907, the Reverend Harry Corbett conducted his funeral services. He expressed his appreciation of this man in a glowing tribute to this man's life, which was published and which Mrs. Mading has and treasures. Mrs. Crumley died in 1930. She and Mr. Crumley are buried in the Driftwood Cemetery. I do have a copy of this book if anyone has any questions or would be interested in the info on the Whisenant Family Melissa in TX
