    1. [CRUMLEY] Ohio Crumleys

    3. I do not know how, or if, the physician James Crumley is related to Thomas of Harrison County, Ohio. James and his wife, Jane, are buried at the Feed Springs Cemetery in Franklin Township, Harrison County. There is a marker which says it was erected in 1987 by their great-grandson, Frank W. McGuire, and has inscriptions for, "James Crumley, physician, b. 1797, d. 5 February 1851, 53y, 3m" and "Jane Crumley, wife of James, b. 1801, d. 31 May 1876, 75y." I do not know anything else about them. While in Ohio last month, I did finally find out what became of one of the sons of Thomas Crumley and Elizabeth Gardner. Their son, Joseph, and his wife, Elizabeth Crabtree, are buried at the Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville, Tuscarawas County. Their obituaries are as follows: The Uhrichsville Chronicle, April 26th, 1905 Mrs. Crumley Mrs. Elizabeth Crumley, wife of Joseph Crumley, died Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock at her home in east Fourth street, at the age of 78 years. She had been an invalid for years. Mrs. Crumley’s maiden name was Elizabeth Crabtree. She was born in Deersville Feb. 14, 1827, and spent the early part of her life there. She was married to Mr. Crumley at Deersville in 1851. For the past thirty-five years they have lived in Uhrichsville. One brother, Lemuel Crabtree, and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Finnical, both of Deersville, survive her. ------------------------------------- The Uhrichsville Chronicle, December 18th, 1907 Joseph Crumley Passes Away Joseph Crumley, one of the oldest residents of the twin cities, died at the house of Mrs. Ross McCullough in Grant street, Dennison, Sunday afternoon at 12:30. Few men in either of the two towns were more widely known and none enjoyed to a greater degree the sincere respect of friends and acquaintances. Since the death of his wife about three years ago Mr. Crumley seemed to have lost his hold on life and gradually drifted with the tide of old age until he passed peacefully away. Physicians were unable to find any evidence of specific disease. Death was due to general debility. Mr. Crumley, who was almost 87 years of age, was born on Short Creek in Harrison county April 14, 1821. For a number of years he followed farming in the vicinity where he was born. Thirty?three years ago he removed to Uhrichsville and built a home in Fourth street where he resided until about one year ago, when he went to Dennison to spend his closing days with Mrs. McCullough. No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Crumley, but they reared five girls to young womanhood, caring for them with all a parents’ love. One of these was Mrs. McCullough, who was happy to return in the last years of her benefactor’s life some of that care and kindness which she had received at his hands in her childhood. Mrs. Albert Quimby and Mrs. Ross Lewis were also reared in the Crumley home. While he never entirely gave up farming, Mr. Crumley was for a time in the meat business here with James Harvey. He had been for years a member of the Methodist Episcopal church here. He is universally remembered by the people of the twin cities as a manly Christian man who carried into his daily life his faith in Christ’s teachings. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. ------------------------------------------- As to Truett's previous question about the children of Thomas, Jr., I can only pass along information that was sent to me several years ago, by Cheryl Crumley-Wall who, I think, is or was a subscriber to this list. I have not personally had occasion to research this line. Thomas, Jr. was certainly still in Harrison County in August of 1830 when he was appointed the administrator of the estate of his brother, Samuel. He married Elizabeth Davis in Harrison County on 31 August 1830. I believe he moved to Wells County, Indiana c. 1844. Of their children: Ira married Margaret Myers in Wells County, Indiana 10 March 1861. Moved to Kansas. John did not marry. Eliza married James Hall, 7 December 1856 [I presume in Wells County]. Rachel Ann married Richard Heep, 21 September 1856, Wells County. Thomas James married Elizabeth Solomon, 10 September 1868, Wells County. Elizabeth [No info that she married]. Samuel McGue married Sara Elizabeth Brunk, 23 September 1869, Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana. Ruth Jane, did not marry. Moved to Kansas with her brother, Ira.
