Wow, wouldn't it be fun to research those papers!!! All points to Hannah being a Mercer, doesn't it? She's descended from Hannah's daughter Catharine and her first husband John Eyre. Maybe someone lives near Lansing and can check out the papers she refers to. When my father died 6 years ago, we found a box of over 300 letters and personal papers belonging to Robert Smith Eyre and much of the information dealt with the Eyre family history. It appears that Robert and other Eyre's were actively involved in what at the time was called the Mercer Estate Association - I now affectionately call it the Mercer Scam - but it left me a wealth of information. Catherine's birth date was listed in the papers - letters from relatives, etc. Of note is that in order to receive any of the associated "millions of dollars" from the Mercer Estate, documentation of marriages, births, etc. had to be submitted. As I understand it, many of these documents were saved as a court case evolved. The court file is now part of the (if I remember right) BOGARDUS Collection, at the state library in Lansing, MI. As I understand, it is not indexed and at some time I hope to get there just to see what all is there. The connection the Eyre's were after was Catherine's mother, Hannah Mercer.
