    3. Hello I do agree with Paul on this one. Too much has just been passed from one to another with nothing supporting it, until it finally is treated as fact. And, Paul, I have heard where Hannah Mercer was named in her brother's will, but have never seen it. I wonder if anyone on line has a copy of it. If it is dated after the date of the marriage it would have her married name and that would do it. 3. Can you provide me Hannah Mercer's brother's name and I will search the Library of VA in Richmond for a copy of the will. 3. Hello Ken, Thanks so for the offer. I show it was her brother, John, who named her. She was also named in the will of Elizabeth Morris in 1760. Hannah wasn't married yet. My records show John died in 1749, unmarried. His will is on file and his father, Edward Mercer, was his administrator. ( Will book 1, pg 351) As I'm also showing that William and Hannah were married around 1763 0r 1764 from ages of children, it doesn't look like she would have been married when she inherited from these two wills, I'm afraid. Edward Mercer's will is dated 1762 and proved in 1763 and at that time she wasn't married, so it doesn't look like these two wills will be our answer. I hadn't look that deep until you asked. But - here's a thought. Maybe she inherited property that she carried into her marriage. There might be help there after all.
