Well to put my two cents in how about this: Jesse Chappel and the Stower wife had a son John to go with the children Truett named on the e-mail of the 7th. Mary and Emma are children of the Elizabeth lady. I agree with Larry that the Stoop boys are probably brothers to Elizabeth. This would make her Elizabeth Stoop. I further propose that... John, son of Jesse and Lucinda, that was 14 in the 1880 census is the same as a John E. Crumley who married Emily P. Godfrey on June 25, 1886 down in Fannin Co. GA. Remember Fannin Co is north central GA and borders Polk Co Tennessee. Polk is the TN county east of Bradley. There appears to have been a lot of interaction between Fannin, Bradley, Polk and Murray counties. My Dad was born in Fannin, Co. GA; my Mom in Bradley, Co. TN. There must have been some other children of Jesse and Lucinda in between Tennessee and John for John would have been born about 1865? Or does this just muddy the water? Comments?? Ken
Ken, what you have proposed might be possible. John E. could have been the last child that Jesse Chapel and Lucienda Stower Crumley had. Lucianda could have died at childbirth. Jesse was away in the State Guard and later in the Civil War which might account for the lapse of time between the birth of Tennessee and John E.. I have found that Jesse was in the State Guard and when the War broke out he enlisted in the Confederacy. Legend has Jesse Chapel and family moved westward after the Civil War. I have info that Jesse worked for L&N RR in Birmingham, Alabama 1888 to 1890 as a boilmaker. L&N was headquartered in Nashville, Tn.. He could have been sent to Birmingham after 1880. Jesse died in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., in 1914, but I have been unable in locating where he is buried. ELLA AND NANCY, I seem to agree with Ken that Hayward and William Stoop could have been Elizabeth`s brothers. I have been unable to find another Chapel that would fit into this time frame, except Jesse Chapel. It is possible Jesse Chapel married this 22 year old woman at his age of 50. He had an older brother, Benjamin Thomas in Texas, marrying a 17 year old woman at his age of 47. Anything was possible in those early years. Does anyone agree with this analysis?
