    2. Vernon M Crumly
    3. Roger, After seeing the questions about General Crumley, Vernon remembered the name because of it being so unusual and found our information we had gotten off his tombstone.. Years ago, maybe 20 or 22 years ago, we were in Georgia and while we were there we did some searching for information on Vernon's mother's family... Kimsey . We were in a cemetery at Chattahoochee Baptist Church out of Clarksville, Ga. and saw a marker for General Mardy Crumley b. 7-29-1893 d. 9-30- 1918. This seems to be the same one Rich was talking about. Since we didn't know how to tie him into any of our line of Crumlys, we had not thought any more about it. But I did copy all the information off his marker while we were there because of the name. Glad we got it now... wish we had taken a picture.. but didn't. So with out a picture, what I have is not documented, but if someone, maybe close by, can find it, it can be documented. And the middle name is MARDY. We had noticed that the info Rich has, mentioned him dying aboard a ship and I wondered about his burial site... I am wondering if it was just a marker or if somehow they were able to send his body back. In those early years, I didn't figure they could and am wondering if he might have been buried at sea and someone just put a marker up in his memory.. ?? Just some idle wonderings...?? Another thing I wondered about... is his name GENERAL or was he a general in the army? Hope this will help. Ruth Crumly .. As I said, this is just my thinking...or am I out in left field? Does anyone have documentation of the name Mardy? I can see how the H and M could be confused, but I have no idea for sure which is correct now. Roger Kirk > > -------------------------------------------------- The Crumly's [email protected]

    2. I have a question about General Mardy Crumley. Are we talking the General Crumley born to James Alexander Crumley and Sarah Robinson July 29th, 1893? The reason I ask is I have him in my records as General Hardy Crumley? I don't know where I got this...except that the name origin ...by my thinking. General would have been from Nancy Jackson's brother who died in the civil war on May 26, 1862. Now...this would have been this General's Great Uncle. Yes, I have him down as General M. 2. Many thanks to you, Vernon and Ruth Crumley! Guess many of us have "checked out" those Habersham Cemeteries over the years. I am not the expert on General Crumley but do think there was question about his burial site. Rich is more likely to answer this for us, I think. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your info with us. Judy

    3. Ken, You are right. This was my father`s younger brother. He was killed in an auto accident caused a UPS driver. My dad was named Charlie. There were only 2 boys out of a family of 10 children. William Smith never md.. Lora was my fathers` older sister who never md also. My father was buried in West Hill Cemetery, Dalton, Whitfield Co., Ga.. Many of my father`s kinfolks are buried in the Chattacoochee Methodist Church Cemetery. The church is still in existence today. The church was the setting for the 1949 movie "I`ve climbed the Highest Mountain" starring Susan Hayward. A GREAT MOVIE. 3. Paul Nichols, Have you had time to put numbers on the extra Crumleys in the list I sent last week? If so please forward me a copy of the new number list. I am constructing a searchable data base using M/S Works to help us in identifying all Crumley, Crumly, Crumbly, Crumbley etc who were alive and counted on the 1850 census. In talking with Jerry, it may be the easiest way to get Crumleycentral started. Also, it may be easier to work with the 1850 list until we have the system debugged. Then we can start adding 10 year or generation increments or something. Thanks for all you do. Ken

If you didn't know where it was you'd never find it. I had stopped and asked about it at a house at the base of the hill where a retired man had built a small place to live. I drove my four-wheel drive up the road with him navigating. We walked around among the few tombstones that are still there. Some had been replaced within the past few years, but most were not legible due to natural erosion of the stones over the years. Benjamin or Hannah's tombs were never found. Jerry

    3. Billy, as far as I have researched and gathered info, this Benjamin (the youngest s/o of John Cromley (Crumley) had only one spouse (Hannah Plunkett). This Benjamin was born in Newberry Co., SC on 8-20-1779 to John and Hannah Falconer (Faulkner) as the only son born in SC. Hannah Plunkett was born in Newberry Co on 2-15-178o to Robert and Margaret Murdock. This Benjamin and Hannah Plunkett md about 1799 and migrated to Habersham Co., Ga in the mid 1820s. Benjamin and Hannah moved to the now Choestoe District, Union Co., Ga ( Truett`s birthplace). Probably the reason they moved to Union Co was to be near some of their children (Charles Newell Crumley Sr.). Hannah died 5-31-1862. This Benjamin died 12-29-1869. It is belived they are buried in the Old Salem Methodist Church Cemetery which is about two miles from the church off US129 on a mtn ridge. The church went out of existence about the time the regular Methodist merged with the United Methodist. Benjamin and Hannah were Methodist. Union Co is a very beautiful area of North Georgia nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Cherokee Indians really loved this area as they hugged the trees when forced to the Reservation. Many of the districts of this area carry Indian names - Hiawasse, Arkquah, Choestoe, Owltown etc. So Billy, I find that this Benjamin was md to only Hannah Plunkett. 3. I need to correct my first email. It should have said......She is NOT the mother of William Smith Crumley. His mother is Rachel Parthenia Heaton. Faustene Jerry...... I descend from William Smith Crumley and no, I did not do any research on the info re Joan Gregory. She is NOT the wife of William Smith Crumley. His wife was Elizabeth Jones Monroe, b. Nov 15, 1790 in Laurens Co., SC, d. Jan 19, 1836 in Sautee, GA. William Smith Crumley was born April 4, 1794 as third child to Charles and Parthenia Heaton Crumley of Newberry Co., SC. Charles was the second son of John Crumley, who migrated from Frederick Co., VA (now Berkeley Co., WV) to Newberry Co. in the 1770's. William Smith Crumley's father died around 1800 and his widow later married John Dalton of Newberry Co. It has been determined that William had an older sister, named Joan. After the death of his father, William went to live with his uncle, Thomas Crumley, in Spartenburg Co., SC until his marriage to Elizabeth Jones Monroe around 1813/14. Thomas carried William Smith as his son on the 1800 and 1810 Censuses of Spartenburg Co., SC. Faustene Crumley Heilman My info comes from a typewritten xerox of a page sent me by Faustene Heilman, who got it from Billy Cox. I don't believe either one of them did the original research, so I'm just covering everybody's six. BTW, anyone on this list descended from this William Smith Crumley? Jerry
