I too, looked at the actual microfilm census and the age for Eliza is 22 born VA It would seem that the two Stoops boys would be Eliza's but she would only have been 13 when the oldest was born. I will look and see if I can find them on the 1900 and see what I can find. Will let all know if Eliza's age stays consistant. In reference to the census subject family. The LDS 1880 census has the Stoops boys listed as Haywood "self" 9 and William H. Stoops brother 7 but the original microfilm has them both listed as "son" directly below Chappel and Eliza's family. They may have been living separately from Chappel Crumley on the property as they are numerated separately. Chappel being at 323-356 and the Stoops boys as 323-357. I have a family in Mo. and the property is listed in my gg grfather's uncle in 1880 but my gg grfather and his uncle are listed separately next door to each other. I can only figure that my gg grfather was living in a house on the property of his uncle. The LDS 1880 census is a transcribed version. I looked at the actual microfilm census and the age for Eliza as wife of "Chappell" Crumley is listed as age 22. They were living in E.D.#6, Cleveland, Bradley Co., Tenn.page 286-A In addition to Chappel, Eliza, John, Mary and Emma Crumley at 323-356 directly below is: 323-357, Haywood Stoops son 9 farm hand and William H. Stoops son 7 farm hand. It appears the Stoops boys are part of Chappel's family. . . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Lambert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 07, 2002 6:39 PM Subject: [CRUMLEY] Jesse & Eliza Crumley > >From the 1880 census posted on Chapel & Eliza Crumley, it appears that John > Crumley may be a son from a first marriage. > John is listed as 14 yrs old and the wife of Chapel is Eliza age 22. > Eliza couldn't be the mother of John, as Eliza was only 8 when John was > born. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Truett Crumley" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Sunday, July 07, 2002 4:32 PM > Subject: Re: [CRUMLEY] More 1880 US census look ups? It would be a good idea to check the original microfilm census to see the age for Eliza. It could be a transcription error on the part of the publisher.. The LDS 1880 census is a transcribed version. I tried to find Chappel and Eliza Crumley in Bradley Co., Tenn in 1880 on the actual microfilm but don't know the District. # for Cleveland. I'll keep looking for page 286A. Ella, I think the census info you related to Melissa (Missy) is the family of Jesse Chapel Crumley who was the uncle of Chapel Columbus. Chapel was a younger brother of my g grandfather Sidney Smith Crumley. Jesse Chapel was born in Habersham Co., Ga. in 1828. Jesse Chapel was the youngest brother of Charles Heaton Crumley (my gg grandfather). Jesse Chapel served in the Civil War CSA and afterwards he and his family moved westard from Ga.. I find that Jesse Chapel worked for L & N Railroad out of Nashville, Tn in Birmingham, Al. as a boilmaker from 1888 thru 1890. Jesse died 1-28-1914. I have been unable to determine where and where he is buried. This info given by Ella must be of his possible second marriage as Lucianda could have died. His first marriage was to Lucianda Stower of Habersham Co., Ga. having four children: William (b 1848); Charles D. (b 1850); Martha (b 1852); and Tennesse (1854). All born in Ga. According to Ella`s info, a 50 year old Jesse married to a 22 old woman Elizabeth. Could Elizabeth have been older than 22? The children of his first marriage could have already been married. I have a bunch of Johns but don't know which one he is. Could you send me what I have on him? I'd certainly appreciate it. I may already have it. I show the wife of William Erwin as "Taylor". No more. Mary Crumley, sister of William Erwin, is mine. She named one of her children William Erwin Cox, my grandfather. Thanks in advance, Bill Cox
We're not quite ready to solicit additional lines, Jerry, and it'll be quite a while before we post photos. We'll let you know. I've got to talk to our future web mistress before we start adding to this. Thanks, Jerry--and all of you who have contributed so much to this site. Jean Barbour
Not yet, Jean. The test site is at www.CrumleyFamily.org. It's a skeleton site with few notes and no photos. The data has been partially verified, but there is lots that hasn't. My Son, Kevin Crumley, who is visiting from Seattle, has spent HOURS scanning old photographs of our Crumley folk. Are we accepting photos yet? I have a lot to share, AND someone has labled the whole lot with titles and infor on the back. Jean Barbour
Ella has generously offered her time to look up 1880 census data for the List members. If you'd like for her to look up census data for you, please request it of her using her personal email address, [email protected] Please do not post your request to this List. Other list members are probably not interested, and it will just add additional email messages to their mailboxes. Thanks, Jerry
Hi Ella, I'd really appreciate it if yo could take a look for my ggrandparents: William HENSEL born 1839 in PA and Mary C. Ella, Would you please look-up Chappel Columbus Crumley (b. 13 Aug 1846 GA). By my family records he should have been in Hays Co., TX but I have gone through every page with no luck. I show that his thrid child who was born in 1875 was born in TX as were the rest of his children. I have full access to the 1880 census but not the index, so if you could do this I would appreciate it. Thanks so much for offering to do this for people. It is a great help and is appreciated.
