I haven't talked to her for some time. By the way, where did you see that George's middle initial was B? I have never seen that before. Hugh

    2. Truett Crumley
    3. June, I am descendant of Sidney Smith Crumley. He was my G Grandfather. His son William Thomas was my grandfather. Sidney was the sixth child of Charles Heaton Crumley, who in turn, was the oldest of William Smith Crumley. William Smith was one of the first CRUMLEY who came to Habersham Co in N/E Ga. settling in Nacoochee Valley which is now in White Co. This valley is the big valley, you enter into just as you cross the Chattacoochee River close to Helen, on Ga Hwy 75. On the 1830 Habersham Co. Census, there were six CRUMLEY families listed. They were Thomas Crumby (Crumley), Henry Morgan Crumby (Crumley), Benjamin H Crumly, Robert H Crumly (Crumley), Robert Crumby (Crumley), and William Smith Crumley. All of these families took on the surname of CRUMLEY later. CRUMLEY had many different variants such as: Crumby, Crumbly, Crumbey, Crumly, and Crumbley. CRUMLEY is the correct and primary surname. Robert and Henry Crumby were sons of Thomas. Robert H. was a son of Benjamin. William Smith was a son of Charles Crumley. Charles never came to Ga. He died about 1800 back in SC when William Smith was only four. Thomas, Charles, and Benjamin H. were brothers. They came to Habersham Co from Newberry Co., SC, by the way of Buncombe Co., NC in the early 1820s. Leander F. Crumley is the eighth children of Henry Morgan. Sidney is a second cousin to Leander F. Leander F. fought in Civil War with the Army of Tennessee CSA, but died while on furlough in Cleveland, Ga. He is buried on the cemetery of Zion Interdomination Church on Hwy 515 near Cleveland. Sidney fought in the Army of No Virginia CSA . Sidney is buried in Chattacoochee Methodist Church Cemetery. I only know of a Mae Crumley who was the sixth child of Sidney. She went by the name of Clerrah (Annie) Mae Sidney was a Sixth Generation Crumley, whereas Leander was a fifth. Contact Roger Kirk at E-Mail [email protected] who can help you greatly on Leander F.. 3. Jerry, Clerrah Mae was the fourth daughter and sixth child of Sidney Smith and Julia (Westmoreland) Crumley. Sidney Smith was the grandson of William Smith and Elizabeth Jones Monroe Crumley. Clerrah Mae was born about 1876 in La Veta, Heurfano Co., Colorado while her parents lived there for seven years before returning to N/E Georgia in 1877. She went by ANNIE MAE, but her proper name was CLERRAH MAE. Annie married a John Church Canup and raised six children. Originally the CANUPS came to Georgia from Canada as they were of FRENCH descent. She is buried with her husband in Chattacoochee Methodist Church Cemetery in White Co., Ga.. The church still in operating today. The movie " I have climbed the Highest Mountain" is based on this church and the Methodist Minister at this period of time. It was made in 1949 starring Rory Calhoun, Susan Hayward, and others. 2. Jerry Crumly
    3. This has nothing to do with genealogy, so my apologies. I've been asked to query the male Crumley members of this List for certain genetic info and a specific family tradition. It's been noticed that a number of Crumley men wear beards and/or mustaches and are going bald. If you wear a beard or mustache, please tell me at my off-list address [email protected] And tell me if your father or grandfather wore one. It seems to be a tradition along certain family lines. The other question concerns pattern baldness. How many of you have lost all your hair, as Ken and I have, and how many have receding hairlines? Again, please contact me off-list if you want to tell me. Thanks, Jerry
