    1. [CRUMLEY] Berkeley County W.V/Frederick County Va.
    2. >From the publication HOPEWELL FRIENDS HISTORY 1734-1934, Frederick County, Va.-Joint Committee of Hopewell Friends:289.675599 H77. page 19-year 1752 "Along with two other Friends, JAMES CROMLEY and Lewis Neill, Issace Perkins was elected to this new vestry, and served for many years." page 22 "On August 31, 1744, Giles Chapman sold 150 acres of this land to Ulrich Ruble, and on June 3, 1744, Giles Chapman and Sarah his wife sold the remaining 250 acres of this tract to JAMES CROMLEY. Witnesses to this last mentioned deed were John Lottler, James Carter, John Frost, and W. runnells." page 305 James Crumley was a witness at the marriage of Solomon Hoge and Mary fisher on the 5th day of the 3rd month. 1794 The second entry above I have seen before, not certain about the other references here. A kind researcher looked this up for us, as she had a copy of the History of Hopewell Friends. She commented that the John Littler mentioned in deed was her own 6th great grandfather. More than likely all of these above we have seen before, but thought it good to share it again as some of us may not have referenced these. Judy V. Mason

    3. I have a question, the ages listed for the Thomas and Henry do not fit James Crumley and Catherine Gilkey. They fit with William Crumley and Sarah Dunn children, Thomas Sr. (1776) married to Elizabeth Gardner (1780) and Henry (1780) married to Mary Rees (abt 1793) even their children fitted the right ages and sex. Did I figure this out right? Tricia Crumley Howard

    3. Thanks, I have my origional copy of the Crumley, Bradford section given to me by my Grandfather. I was able to get additional information on this set from a New York library that had the set. I believe the LDS has this set on microfilm. The publisher and researcher is out of business, however. LDS may also have it on the shelf, but usually once it is filmed it's removed from the shelf, I think. This genealogy states that James I was born in Yorkshire, England. It does not give a surname for Catherine. It does have his will in full. Just a tad more of information on this publication. 3. Hello list, Ken requested the title of the book I referred to in my e-mail. The segment done for my grandfather, Alonzo Crumley son of Andrew Polk, was " Crumley, Bradford and Related Families. This was reprinted from " Colonial and Revolutionary Lineage's of America." The publishing company was The American Historical Company, Inc. New York. Published 1957 The company no longer exists. I tried some years ago to track it down to see if I could obtain source information only to find them out of business. I believe that the " Colonial and Revolutionary Lineage's of America" is a 16 volume set. I'm not sure about this, but I believe that this company did the individual family genealogies and than incorporated them into this 16 volume set. I also believe that they used "family records" to make ties to the Colonial and Revolutionary Lineages. The reason for this belief is that many such references cannot be documented and has no basis. However, much of their documentation is very accurate and has been a great help to me is leading me to where to look for family history. So, if any of you have used this source, it can be of great help, just verify their facts along the way. If anyone questions anything from this source, please contact me as I may have already verified it, or proved it wrong. 3. Judy, The information that James and Catherine had a son James has not been verified. We believe this to be in error and was posted some years ago on an LDS site that no one seems to be able to correct. Personally, I believe this to be a grandson of James and Catherine through original James' son William and wife Hannah Mercer. This grandson James married Mary (Polly) Stonebridge. If you have verification that son James existed a lot of us would be very happy to change our records. However, we would need a verifiable paper trail to do that. Thanks for the other information you posted. This is the on-line version. I located two Crumleys. Household# 461/531 Thomas Crumley Household # 462/531 is that of Henry Crumley Thomas appears to be 45 or older His wife 26-45 Three males under 10 years Two females under 10 Henry is 26-45 wife of same age. One male under 10 3 females under 10 I am not certain as to Thomas relationship here. But can see that this Henry may well be a son of James Cromley/Crumley and Catherine Gilkey Crumley. Henry wife is recorded in out data as Sarah, I believe. Take a look at this census record for yourselves and see it you can properly id this THOMAS FOR ME. If they were brothers, then I am missing Thomas as a child. I do have for James and Catherine's children (in brief) John, William, Mary. Henry, Samuel and James. Thanks, Judy V. 3. Nancy, thank you for your indepth search on this Newton (Newt) Crumley on Nevada. Let me give you some more background on this Crumley. Newton was born was born in Union Co., Ga. on 3-1-1876 to Benjamin Jasper (B.J.) and Sarah C. Addington Crumley as the youngest son and tenth child. I am very familier of this area of Union Co., as I was born in this area in 1931. Benjamin, Sarah and the family at that time moved to Cleveland, Bradley Co., Tn. around 1863 when the Civil War broke out. . On 2-18-1864, Benjamin enlisted as a Private in Co I, 12th Tn Calvary for three years in Nashville. As it was known, a lot of Eastern Tn area was divided in their loyalty. Benjamin had join the Union forces. In 12/1864, Benjamin became sick with Pneumonia and went into General Hospital in Nashvuille. Later in 1865, he was sent to his home in Jefferson Co., Indiana on a sick furlough. His family had been sent there to other Crumleys at the outset of the Civil War. He entered the General Hospital in Indianapolis. Indiana where he was honorably discharged in 2/1865. Benjamin and his family returned to Union Co. in 1866 where his siblings still lived and where the remainder of his children were born including Newton. Around 7-12-1877, Benjamin sold his 160 acres to his youngest brother, Charles Newell Jr., and migrated thru Tennessee and Indiana visiting old acquaintances and kinfolks. This move was made to get away for scorn and harassment of fellow people of Union County. By the end of 1877, Benjamin and family were in Hutchinson, Kansas and a year later they were in Kingman Co., Kansas. By late 1886, Benjamin, Sarah, and some of his family moved to Ulysses, Grant Co., Kansas where he homesteaded land. He and Sarah organized Ulysses Methodist Church. Benjamin became a Methodist minister. Here is where Newton departed from his parents going to Colorado and then to Nevada. Around 1893, Benjamin, Sarah and daughter, Sarah Ann with two grandchildren made their last move to the Cherokee Outlet Run which is now Kay Co., Oklahoma settling in Newkirk where he and Sarah died. 3. Hi Jerry! Do you still have this? I'm slightly late! LOL! Well, my new computer is set up and ready to go...I think...I am still having some problems with XP, but probably because I don't know it well enough yet. :-) I am more or less ready to get Crumley Central set up if that is still the plan. As you can see, I am still catching up with OLD email. Sincerely, Laurie At 09:39 AM 7/15/2002 -0500, you wrote: >I have a group photo of the committee that met in Atlanta in June to go over >the Crumley research data.
