I just looked at what I have for Samuel....obviously something wrong in my tracking because I too show him b. 1848, d. 1863....but show him married with kids. Oops! I am descended through Benjamin's daughter/Samuel's sister 'Harplissa'. She is the mother of my ggrandfather, Frank C Harper from around Pittsburgh. I can't seem to figure out his parentage. I have only been able to find her in the census when she lived with her parents, along with her 'son' Frank C Harper. No clue on HIS parents. BELIEVE Harplissa was born abt. 1863 in Ohio/Penna, d. 1929 in Penna. Have an article that she married a Wm. F. Gray in 1898 in Etna, Allengheny, Penna. Any clues from someone? However from reading some of the other replies to your query you seem to have hit gold! Good luck! Julia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have looked through my notes about my heritage, and from what i can find my range from Helifax, Yorkshire and migrated to New Zealand. The furthest back i have taken my research is 1798, though i have plenty of missing pieces. If you would like to look at my research I am happy to email what i have done. The only Samuel I have was born in the US but he died in 1863 aged only 15, unless this date is wrong. He was born in 1848 the son of Benjamin Crowther who migrated to the US in the 1840s, Benjamin was one of my Great Great Uncles, brother of my Great Grandfather Henry who stayed in Walsall, Henry and Benjamin had a sister Eliza - I have been unable to find what happened to her. I should love to hear from you anyway. Could you be a descendent of William Crowther son of Henry? Julia Carroll I now live in Australia. She is the neice of Mary Tyler(nee Crowther?) and was an annuitant from Mary's substantial estate in 1842. Another beneficiary was Martha's brother William Crowther born 1807 bapt 1809 St Andrew's Holborn. Their parents were Edward Crowther and Mary Elizabeth Crowther. Does anyone have any links to this family? I have found them on the census in 1841 onwards. Martha died in Caterham Surrey in 1885. Author: JuliePM Surnames: Crowther, Milner, Rhodes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crowther/264/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There seems to be an extraordinary number of Crowthers in Yorkshire and I'm having trouble finding the parents and siblings of William b c1835 Shipley, Yorks. In the 1841 Census William 6 is living at Spinkwell Terrace Bradford with his mother Susannah 40 and siblings Ellen 13, Thomas 12. No sign of father. In 1851 Susannah 51 widow b c1800 Fewston Yorks, and William 16 (printers apprentice) are living at Bolton Road, Bradford. In Dec 1852 William marries Sarah Milner both 18 at the Parish Church in Halifax. William's father is given as Thomas Crowther a weaver and Sarah Milners father is John Milner a curer who died before 1851. Her mother's Lidia Milner nee Rhodes. I believe Thomas died before 1841 and Susannah died between 1851 and 1861. I have 2 death certificates for Susannah in Bradford neither of which I think is correct. The 1854 one says widow of James Crowther weaver and the other in 1857 was registered by Lavinia Crowther and when I checked census that Susannah had been born in Keithley. There appears to be another Thomas & Susannah Crowther family in Wakefield too - just to add to the confusion. Can anyone shed any light on my Crowther family please Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
