It's the only reply I've had. Your George is much too early for my family I'm afraid. My Samuel George was actually born in Halifax, and moved to Huddersfield. He was born in 1880, and married my Grandma's Aunt. She was Eva Smith, born 1875. They married in 1904 in HUddersfield, > I know that Eva ended up in Philadelphia, I think without Samuel. I can find no trace of him sailing, dying, or on any census returns. Aunt Eva has also disappeared into the mists of time I'm afraid. She was the only emigrant I knew of for sure, but in looking for her, I found a huge number of 4th cousins in the Armitage & Bennett families. I'm sorry I can't be of any help, other than tell you that Crowther is a very common name here in West Yorkshire, and in my village in particular. There was also a very wealthy branch of the family who were mill owners Many thanks for your interest. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Clare CROWTHER of Ripon, Wisconsin. The photograph was taken at the Dunn's Art Gallery Studio in Ripon, WI, likely sometime in the 1890's with Clare appearing to be in her teens or 20's. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Clare and her family: Clara S. CROWTHER b. 15 Mar 1873 in Black Earth, WI to parents William Saville CROWTHER (b. 10 Apr 1843 in Manchester, England) and Mary MCCORD or MCCORDON (b. 15 Feb 1854 in Waukesha, WI). Clara married Henry Otis NASH (b. Mar 1863 in Oak Grove, WI, son of Noah P. NASH and Ellen V. SMITH) on 8 May 1907 in Ripon, WI and together they had a son, William NASH. Clara died 26 May 1951 in Ripon, WI and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam, WI. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Stacyville, IA: William S. Could the G on your painting be a J? Alfred James died in Flanders in 1916. This particular family has been very well researched back to a George Crowther born in 1490 and there appears to be a stately home near Ludlow built by an early Thomas Crowther.
