I am not sure if it is the same Herbert Crowther. My Herbert Crowther married an English woman called Elsie they emigrated to Sioux Falls in 1907 and they had a son called Arnold J Crowther around 1908. As I said previously I am not sure if the Herbert who emigrated to Sioux Falls is my great uncle. I was hoping someone in Sioux Falls knew their family history and could confirm he was the same man. If you think it is the same Herbert Crowther I would be happy to pass on the information of his English family. Author: eclerkservices Surnames: Crowther Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crowther/1.63.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I am trying to find my great grandfather's (William Crowther born 1843 in Norland a village close to Sowerby Bridge) parents and/or siblings. In the 1881 census he was married to Hannah and they had daughters Sarah Elizabeth, Caroline, Eliza Emma, Edith Ann ( my grandmother) and son Leonard. Unfortunately I cannot find Hannah's maiden name. In the 1891 census he was married to a Caroline who had 1 son (Joe Townsend) and 1 daughter (Emily Townsend) by a previous marriage. All his children by Hannah lived with them and they had another son Herbert Crowther. With Hannah they lived at Sowerby New Road, Sowerby Bridge. With Caroline they lived at 4 Chester Street, Warley. The only William Crowther I can find in the 1851 census was born in 1842 in Norland. His parents were Ely and Frances Crowther. Are your family related to these Crowthers or have you come across them in your research? Any information would be gratefully received. Author: tabango Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crowther/126.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mary Ann Crowther's parents were John Crowther and Mary Taylor. Millicent Ludlam is a mistake. Both John and Mary Taylor Crowther are buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Mary has a headstone but the cemetery did not record her burial for some reason. She is in the same spot as one of Mary Ann Crowther McKenzie's infant sons that died just prior to Mary Taylor Crowther. Both of the parents lived with the McKenzie's at the end of their lives. David and Mary Ann McKenzie had 14 children, 5 boys that died in infancy and 9 that lived to adulthood. On the 1880 Census Nephi McKenzie, known as Ned, was not included because he was born in 1885. David was in jail for only about a year and a half. He was released on a writ of habeus corpus and a couple of months later he was pardoned by the President of the United States, President Buchanan.
