I am looking for any member of the Cronkright/Conkright family that came from Wallingford, Rutland, Vt. I have a lot of information on this family and am will to share. I use PAF 2.31 and a GEDCOM is no problem. Just a little about this family. After the Rev War James Cronkright moved from Fort Edward, New York to near Bennington, Vt and engaged in farming and dairy business. He had a large family among them two sons James and William. James Jr. emigrated to Michigan and settled at Jamestown, near Holland, Michigan. Jamestown was named for him. I have a great history on him and it has his picture in it and some of his family. William is my GG Grandfather that left VT for western N.Y. (Chautauqua) ca. 1830 for 3 years and then removed to Washington Co., Ohio. Found William in the 1840 census. I then find the family in Williamsville, Delaware, Ohio in the 1850 census. William died 02 Feb 1851 and is buried in Williamsville. James Cronkright was married to Mary and they had 8 children that I am aware of. 1. Abraham - I have his will 2. Jane 3. Hannah 4. Besty 5. Polly 6. Molly 7. William - my GG Grandfather 8. James Jr. According to the story written by Emma Conkright, James had been living in Fort Edward, N.Y. and moved his family into the Bennington, Vt. area after the Revolutionary War. He can be found again in Wallingford, Rutland, Vt. A land record was found were Enoch Hopkins sold land to James Conkright Sr of Danby, Vt on 13 April 1785 for 13 pounds 4 shillings. Land was held until 1823 then James died. Other land record shows James transferring/selling land to "his sons Abraham, James and William." James appears in the 1790 census as living in Tinmouth Town, Rutland, Vt, there were a total of 9 shown in his family: 3 males and 6 females. His name is spelled Cronkhite in the 1790 census. He also appears in the 1800 Wallingford, Rutland, Vt census. Living next to James in the same census is his son Abraham Conkright. Now the name is shown Conkright. I also find 3 families of Doty's living close by. Again in the 1810 Wallingford census I find James plus sons Abraham and now William. James died 21 Jun 1823 in Wallingford, Vt and is buried in the Doty cemetery in South Wallingford, Rutland, Vt. His wife died 24 Jul 1810 in Wallingford and is buried in the same cemetery. Her stone is still standing and was photographed by Margarite Jenkins. The stone has the spelling of Cronkright carved in it. There wasn't a stone showing James, so I will have to assume that he is buried in an unmarked grave as of this writing in the Doty cemetery. One thing what I find very interesting about the Doty cemetery is a Isaac Doty married a Sarah Cronkrite in Wallingford, Vt. Could Sarah be Jane Cronkright or given the name of Sarah Jane Cronkright? This could be a family plot for both Doty's and Cronkright's. Just a little about the Doty family. Isaac Doty, son of Ormond Doty and Phebe Vail, b. probably Lansingburgh, N.Y. 30 Dec 1772; married in Walllingford, Vt to Sarah Cronkrite, b. probably Saratoga County, N.Y. 15 May 1777. He was a farmer. They lived in Wallingford, where she died 27 Feb 1846, and he died 5 May 1848. They had a total of 13 children. Not much know about them yet. Of course we all know the Dutch were famous for changing there names and I have found 33 difference spelling in one history on this family. I look forward to sharing my files and information. Happy Hunting........ Court
