    1. [CRONK-L] various spellings
    2. Hello, all. This is a "shot in the dark" as there is a large Crank family that was in the colonies from the 1600s. However, my Crank's parents are elusive--unknown, actually--and I wonder if they might have been Cronk. What I know is that Jesse Crank was born in Knox Co., Tenn., in 1805/6, along with a twin, James. They had a brother, Nelson, among other siblings. One researcher said their father was a Charles Crank, but none can be found in Knox Co. None of the known children or grandchildren was named after a Charles, which would be curious. And if the first name is in doubt, the last name might be also, especially given tendencies of census takers to be creative with phonetics. Does anybody on the Cronk list have any reference to a Cronk who moved to Knox Co., Tenn., about 1800, and who might have had Charles, Thomas, Nelson, Jesse and James among his family's names? Pete
